  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover is reduced for estimated customer returns, rebates and other similar allowances.

    Other accounting policies

Sale of goods Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods has transferred to the buyer. This is usually at the point that the customer has signed for the delivery of the goods. Rendering of services Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. Turnover is only recognised to the extent of recoverable expenses when the outcome of a contract cannot be estimated reliably.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ENROUTE GROUP CIC

Company Number: 14335309 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 28 February 2025

Company activities and impact

Between February 2024 and February 2025, Enroute Group CIC continued its work to promote sustainable and accessible transport, with our key aims and approaches set out in our 2024-25 Annual Strategy. Activity during the period focussed on research, and public engagement. The organisation delivered several significant campaigns, including Fix the Spine, which advocated for a more ambitious high speed rail strategy, highlighting capacity challenges on the West Coast Main Line and emphasising the associated local benefits for Staffordshire and Cheshire of relieving acute bottlenecks in the area. The campaign brought together multiple organisations and individuals and resulted in a joint public letter to the Secretary of State, which received a response from the Rail Minister, Lord Hendy. Enroute also launched Ditch the Print, responding to concerns raised in Merseyside regarding QR-code e-ticketing validity on Merseyrail services in the region, a cause of passenger confusion and well-meaning passengers receiving unfair penalties. Through petitions, public letters and blog posts, the issue was raised with both the operator and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. A new service, Here to Help, was introduced during the year, providing a portal for individuals and community groups to request support and advice from Enroute's professionals for smaller-scale transport campaigns. Enroute published a report examining the feasibility of reintroducing international rail services to Kent jointly with Bring Back Euro Trains joint research project. The report outlined the operational and infrastructure considerations involved and highlighted potential benefits for cross-border travel, alongside providing general recommendations to government and industry.

Consultation with stakeholders

Across major campaigns and research projects, Enroute consulted with partner organisations, transport user groups and other sector bodies whose input supported the development of policy positions and the organisation's communications. Internal stakeholders, including current and former volunteers, were involved in shaping key organisational decisions. Their feedback informed Enroute's response to the Integrated National Transport Strategy consultation and the spending review, and contributed to the refinement of the organisation's volunteer recruitment and retention approach. Stakeholder consultation ensured that Enroute's work remained relevant and informed by lived experience both internally and externally throughout the period.
