Over the past financial year, the Surrey Poet Laureateship CIC has had a transformative impact on communities across the county. Through our expanding network of poetry workshops, we’ve empowered individuals from all walks of life to better understand the craft of poetry and, more importantly, to discover how poetry can be a vital tool for emotional expression and personal growth. Our sessions have offered a safe and supportive space for people to process their thoughts, build confidence, and find their creative voice. Meanwhile, our open mic events from grassroots lounges to larger showcases have helped participants overcome barriers to public speaking, step into the spotlight, and connect with others through the shared power of spoken word. We've seen shy first-timers become regular performers, and beginners evolve into published poets. This is the impact of poetry, and we’re proud to be building a Surrey where everyone feels invited to write, speak, and be heard.
The company's stakeholders are the local community as a whole, but more specifically during this period the target was retirees, via our Poetry Hub Initiative. We have contacted a number of Council Members and high profile people in the community in order to gain traction during our first year of incorporation. Examples of some of these include: Cllr Tim Oliver OBE, Leader of Surrey County Council Cllr Med Buck, Mayor of Spelthorne Cllr Denise Stewart, Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council
