During the reporting year, Hydons continued to provide a peaceful, supportive environment in which individuals can engage with nature, learn about horticulture, and participate in animal-care activities. Our mission is to offer a nurturing space where people particularly those experiencing mental health challenges can benefit from the therapeutic value of nature while developing practical horticultural skills. We have continued our valued partnership with the Green Hub Project for Teens, a local charity supporting young people with mental health difficulties. Through this collaboration, we hosted three therapeutic horticulture sessions each week on our premises, providing expertise, materials, and a restorative out-door setting. In 2025, a total of 65 teenagers participated in these sessions, gaining both emotional sup-port and introductory horticultural knowledge. Beyond our work with young people, Hydons Flowers supported additional community groups through-out the year. We hosted a monthly social gardening morning for a local group of senior women and welcomed Surrey Choices, a local organisation supporting disabled and neurodivergent adults, for a day a month, involving larger-scale gardening tasks.
Green Hub Charity Green Hub is a crucial partner in delivering mental health support to teenagers. They provide expert guidance and facilitate sessions that help young people reconnect with nature and develop coping strategies. Their focus on mental well-being aligns with our values, making them an essential stakeholder in our program. Teenagers Attending Sessions The young people who participate in Green Hub’s sessions in our garden are the primary beneficiaries of our partnership. These teenagers are supported through nature-based interventions that promote mental well-being, resilience, and self-care. Their feedback is invaluable in shaping our approach and ensuring we provide a supportive environment that meets their needs. Volunteers Our dedicated volunteers play a vital role in maintaining the garden and supporting the participants during the sessions. They help create a welcoming and nurturing space for both the teenagers and the community. Volunteers are essential in ensuring the day-to-day operations of the garden run smoothly and that all activities are safely managed. Ongoing Consultation and Feedback: We are committed to ensuring that our provision meets the needs of all stakeholders. Regular consultation with Green Hub, the teens attending the sessions, and our volunteers is integral to our approach. Throughout the year, we have participated in several workshops with these groups to gather feedback and optimize our programs. This ongoing dialogue ensures that we are responsive to the needs of the community and that our offerings remain relevant and impactful. Steering Committee: A steering committee has now been established for a full year, meeting most months to oversee the management and growth of the project. Representing our key stakeholder groups, the committee provides a structured platform for feedback, planning, and decision-making. By ensuring that the perspectives of garden users and partner organisations are incorporated, the committee plays a vital role in guiding the continued development of our programmes and maintaining alignment with our mission to support mental health through nature-based activities.
