This company runs the Croatian Supplementary School London with a particular emphasis on educational activities which promote Croatian language and culture. During the financial year 2023-2024, the school’s activities benefited the community in the following ways: - Around 30 children of primary school age from Greater London and other parts of England were able to attend weekly Saturday online lessons which we run in two groups (beginner and advanced). - Two online poetry sessions gave an opportunity both to parents and children to read and discuss Croatian poems. - Two literary workshops with two Croatian authors based in Croatia gave the children an opportunity to discover new Croatian books and engage in literary conversations. - Participation in the annual art competition (portraits of eminent Croats from the past) was very popular among the children. - For the first time the School organised an event to mark traditional Carnival celebrations in February at a venue in London. With mask making, food, music and dance this was a very successful event. - During an online music workshop, run by a Croatian pianist based in London, children were encouraged to play instruments to create an online orchestra while learning some Croatian. - Easter and Christmas activities explored religious significance of these celebrations and Croatian traditions (songs, poems, food, craft). - Two picnics at Regent’s Park brought together parents, children and teachers in June and September to mark the end and start of the school year. During these social gatherings families with Croatian background had an opportunity to meet and forge new friendships. - School’s annual newsletter was published at the end of the school year and distributed to all families.
