During the financial year, Hollingdean Performing Arts CIC delivered a range of inclusive community activities designed to improve wellbeing, confidence and social connection for local residents, particularly children and families with additional needs. We delivered an outdoor neurodiverse sports and wellbeing event in our local park, which provided free access to structured physical activity for children with additional needs. This helped participants build confidence, reduce isolation, and increase their physical activity levels in a supportive environment. Our work directly supported neurodiverse children and their families by offering a safe space where they could participate without judgement, meet other families in similar situations, and access guidance from trained practitioners. We were awarded a Sports England Movement Fund grant, enabling us to develop future inclusive physical activity sessions that will benefit both children and adults in the local community. This funding increases our long-term capacity to deliver accessible, low-cost sport and wellbeing opportunities for residents who may otherwise be excluded. Our sessions helped families who face financial barriers by providing free access to physical activity and community engagement at a time when the cost of living is preventing many children from joining mainstream clubs. Activities were run locally, ensuring that families without transport, or who struggle to travel due to disability or neurodiversity, were still able to participate fully. The CIC strengthened community links by working with local partners and professionals, helping broaden access to performing arts, sport and wellbeing activities within Hollingdean.
Who the stakeholders are: Our stakeholders include local families, particularly those with neurodiverse children, community participants, our session leaders, partner organisations involved in delivering inclusive sports and wellbeing activities, and funders such as Sport England. How they were consulted: Stakeholders were consulted informally throughout the year through direct conversations during our community sessions, feedback from parents and carers, WhatsApp and social media messages, and follow-up discussions with our session leaders and local partners. We also received feedback during the planning process for our Sport England Movement Fund project. Actions taken in response to feedback: In response to stakeholder feedback, we adapted our sessions to be more accessible for neurodiverse children, including shorter activity blocks, quieter breakout spaces, and a stronger focus on confidence-building. We also expanded our offer to include additional inclusive physical activity sessions funded by Sport England, after families told us they needed more ongoing, structured support. Feedback from parents also informed our decision to keep sessions free, recognising the financial barriers families are facing.
