This marks the second year of operation of Missing Dog Support Team CIC, established in 2023 to relieve animal suffering, reunite lost dogs with their families and safeguard stray or abandoned dogs across the UK. Our missing is to provide safe, compassionate and effective support to dogs in crisis, while protecting public safety and engaging communities in responsible lost dog response. Missing Dog Support Team CIC has delivered pubic and animal welfare benefits this year. Rising pet abandonment has contributed to an increase in homeless dogs in the UK and missing dog reports have increased. Our services respond directly to these urgent challenges. Key achievements and impact include, over 40 lost or stray dogs were safely recovered from the streets across the UK. Volunteers travelled more than 15000 miles supporting urgent and high risk recovery efforts. Numerous dogs were rescued from dangerous areas including roads, motorways, railway lines and industrial sites, reducing the risks to both animal and human safety. Principle activities carried out include, immediate response by volunteers who provided rapid assistance in lost dog emergencies. Risk assessment and public education, each case begins with a risk assessment to protect the dog, the public and volunteers. We have educated communities on safe lost dog practices, avoiding risky behaviour such as chasing frightened dogs and communicating the best methods for containment without escalating danger. We have ran awareness campaigns by creating and distributing posters, running digital alerts and used online mapping tools to track sightings and safely coordinate volunteers and owners. We have used technology to assist in recovery efforts by deploying wildlife and live recording cameras to monitor food stations to help keep dogs within safe areas and to track the dogs with minimal stress to do the dog. When hand catching is not possible or unsafe we use humane traps to ensure safe containment, minimal stress and a timely reunification with owners. We have collaborated with Local Authorities, Animal Rescue organisations and community groups and these partnerships improve outcomes for both animal welfare and public safety. The CIC has ensured community benefit by maintaining full readiness of all equipment, by providing services free at the point of need and by allocating funds directly to welfare activities, including vet treatment. We have provided communities with knowledge and tools to respond safely to lost dog incidents and these actions have enhanced animal safety, reduced road hazards and supported distressed families. All CIC assets were applied solely for community benefit.
