Cowley Community Closet delivers clothes swaps, workshops and self-defence classes. We delivered 24 free self-defence classes, creating an opportunity for marginalised communities to try a skill that is usually inaccessible due to financial cost. The classes improve fitness, mental wellbeing and confidence/security in navigating the world. We ran over 60 free swap-shop events where patrons could trade in their old clothes for new-to-them items without any cost. We saved lots of fabric waste occurring, kept garments in circulation for longer and most importantly helped to dress the community with whatever they needed. We collaborated with other small groups like the Cardiff sewing social to bring textile skills to the community, helping people learn to mend their own clothes.
