  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    The total turnover of the company for the year has been derived from its principal activity wholly undertaken in the UK. Grant income is recognised in the year to which the grant relates, as specified by the funder to meet certain criteria. Income relating to future years is deferred.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life. Fixtures and equipment - 25% on reducing balance

    Other accounting policies

    Stocks Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items. Taxation Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date. Deferred tax Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date. Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference. Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.

Company activities and impact

PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY’S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT - Singalong Song’s objective is to support families and strengthen communities through interactive musical experiences with a unique cross-generational appeal. Our work focuses on improving wellbeing and increasing community interaction through the simple act of singing and dancing together. - Our events are open to all, regardless of age, income or background. Some events are free of charge however we typically ask audiences to make an optional donation to help cover costs and rely on charitable grants to fund our activities, alternatively we may also levy a modest ticket charge, with a price reduction for those with low incomes. - We reach less advantaged/marginalised communities, bringing together diverse audiences, through working in partnership with for example local authorities and charities. - We continue to deliver our activities with the Culpeper Community Choir through a 5 year funding grant provided by The City Bridge Trust. - As part of our on-going “Together in Bread and Song” activities, we received funding from Cripplegate to deliver 3 Bread and Song Weekends which start next year. - We continue to work with schools, nurseries, delivering our residency at the Quarter House and E17 Trades Hall. - National Lottery Grant received for singing with our friends and families. - Our Exmouth Market Singalong continues to bring joy and connections for children and their families/carers. The band’s music continues to feature on YOTO, an audio player for children. With each sale of the player the band receives a small royalty. “Score a Score” promotes the “Mrs H Sings” album across all platforms, reaching an increased audience on Amazon Music. Our own fundraising, during the year our main fundraising event was our Christmas Singalong fundraiser at Exmouth Market. A local parent also ran the Hackney Half Marathon raising funds for Singalong. FREE OF CHARGE EVENTS Community groups Exmouth Market Centre - Mr H continues to run 2-3 Singalong session per week, with band members joining in from time to time. Audience levels continue to grow. Culpeper Community Singalong Choir, a weekly event open to all, our community choir continues to run in the N1 Shopping Centre, Angel, Islington. It is very well attended with new people joining the choir each week. We’ve travelled as a community choir to the seaside in the summer. We also held a “Song Share” with a local shanty choir in the Culpeper Garden. The choir also performed at The Arsenal taking part in “My Day” organised by Islington Social Services and organised a “Happy Harvest Singalong and Bring A Dish” for the choir and local Islington community. The choir also held a fund raiser in December 2024, raising money for “Margins” at The Union Chapel, Islington. Devon Tour, We toured Devon again in July 2024, playing at the Ashburton Arts Centre and performed at Exeter festival. The Angel Glow project, performed at N1 Shopping Centre, Angel, Islington as part of their Christmas festival. Living Advent Calendar, Folkstone - Jim Jam Arts invited us to perform again as part of their Live Advent calendar project, a series of live performances through December. Adoption Support Leytonstone - we performed for children and their carers. Sunday School Stories, hosted at The Union Chapel, funded by Heritage Funding, we have been commissioned to delve into the Union Chapel archives to write interactive songs culminating in a concert in February 2026. Schools and nurseries Islington Council, “Teddy Bears’ Picnic and Singalong” in the park, a series of family orientated picnics, bringing nurseries and their local communities together. Devon tour, as part of the above tour, we visited local Chagford School. Hillyfields school, a 6-piece band worked throughout the school year with classes and teachers. Greenleaf School, E17, Mrs H and the whole band worked with all year groups, culminating in a performance for parents/carers in the afternoon. Hugh Middleton School and Christopher Hatton School – attended a National Lottery funded residency at the Exmouth Market together with their parents and carers. The Bridge Trust Academy - integrated school for students with autism and different learning profiles - we supported their end of term assemblies and Christmas party. Henry Maynard Primary School, E17 - 6 piece band work shopped with the children, parents invited to final session. PAID ACTIVITIES Tower Theatre, Folkstone, the band performed with Tower Theatre, performing once per month. The Quarterhouse, Folkstone - Singalong performed once per month, delivering a schedule of events for a local child minder network (“Little Cherries”). Tom Thumb Theatre, Kent - we played in their intimate theatre. Walthamstow Trades Hall - Mrs H and one of the band members have a weekly residency, keeping ticket prices as affordable as possible. City of Culture, Hull - invited us to host workshops for local schools, culminating in a concert on the main stage. The Red Hedgehog, Archway – ad hoc performances continued, reaching the local community. Oast Studios Kent CIC – we help the studio celebrate the open of their traditional arts, earth skills and wellbeing centre nestled in the heart of the North Down. Other paid events to reach a different audience Festivals Latitude Festival, Suffolk, we performed two concerts in the children’s theatre tent. The Castle Stay and Play, we performed our Christmas Show. Together Space, E17, is a bespoke space for learning disabled and neurotypical children, young people and their families to comfortably socialise, learn and play together. The Band hosted an interactive workshop. The Big Penny Social (formerly the Truman Social Club), number of shows performed, reaching a sold out audience of c400. Smugglers – the band performed at a forest based festival in Kent. Book and CDs, during the year we continued to sell our two songbooks, t-shirts and our CDs.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are children and their parents and carers, school and community groups, choir members and charitable bodies that have provided funding to the company during the year. The band members who perform are also key stakeholders. We continue to increase our reach through our own online channel, Online Adventures. Each programme includes user-generated content e.g. photos, video clips, art work, pets etc, demonstrating the engagement we generated. We continue to receive positive unsolicited email feedback from families, UK and overseas, for example highlighting their sense of community, excitement and delight of learning and taking part in songs. The band members continue to debrief after events, reflecting on what’s working well and what can be improved. The band continue to rehearse so that the performances are the best they can be. We continue to raise our social media profile through Facebook, Bandcamp and Instagram which allows us to gain direct feedback, video, photos etc, from our audience and stakeholders.
