ONE OF TWO by Jack Hunter
[Scotland Schools Tour, Open the Door Festival, Katowice & NO LIMITS Festival, Berlin]
An Independent Arts Projects production supported by Creative Scotland

Writer / Performer: Jack Hunter

INDEPENDENT ARTS PROJECTS LTD (REGISTERED NUMBER: SC581505)

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
For The Year Ended 31 March 2025

Director / Dramaturg: Joe Douglas
Composer / Sound Designer: Nik Paget-Tomlinson
Technical Stage Manager: Susan McWhirter

ONE OF TWO is a one-man comedy-drama about two twins growing up with cerebral palsy: Bec (a wheelchair user) and Jack (who walks with a limp). Each twin had a very different experience navigating life. Jack steps back in time, reliving squabbles with his old womb-mate Bec. All whilst battling against societal attitudes and his own emotional darkside: in the form of a well-known disabled Sith Lord.

Feedback from Schools included:

"The children absolutely loved the show. Even before the show, when we looked at the website and the pre-show materials, they engaged really well with the themes and ideas raised and were excited for the show. Jack's honest and open performance was an amazing way of raising the children's awareness of disability and prejudice. Seeing the show has made a real impact on how they think about disability and treat people who have a disability." Corstorphine Primary School, Edinburgh.

"The show stimulated wonderful debates and discussions back in class using the teaching materials. It was great to have the show as a stimulus to discuss the topic of disability and discrimination. To have my class so engaged that you could hear a pin drop was incredible, and for that to have happened with 1 man, and little props etc - that's incredible. The script was captivating, hilarious, sad, frustrating and from the heart."
Papdale Primary School, Orkney.

One of Two was performed in Schools across Scotland from November to December 2024 and presented at Open the Door Festival, Katowice, Poland on the 8 of June 2024 and Rambazamba Theatre, NO LIMITS Festival, Berlin on the 20 and 21 of November 2024 reaching 2,361 audience members across the year. It toured to schools across 9 Scottish local authority areas including Glasgow, Orkney Islands, Shetland Islands, Aberdeen, North Lanarkshire, Edinburgh City, Glasgow, Argyll & Bute and Highland.

SHOULD WE JUST BOUNCE? by Lou Brodie
An Independent Arts Projects project with support from An Tobar and Mull Theatre.

Lou Brodie was supported to explore the emotional, creative and environmental possibilities of an ageing bouncy castle/inflatable platform as a metaphor for joy, activism and the climate crisis.

Lou collaborated with Hazel Darwin Clements, Geraldine Heaney, Max Alexandar, K Biff Nicholson, Kirsten Georgia Abraham and Geer Pester with expertise in climate justice, neurodivergent play, creative access and soft inflatable sculpture.

Lou worked with the artists to explore a variety of creative experiments working the concept of a dying bouncy castle for a long weekend residency. The artists created an audio sequence using the three phases of the bouncy castle states, inflating, inflated and deflating became a metaphor for a life cycle.

Lou collaborated with Geraldine Heany to bring the project to Tobermory Primary School on the Island of Mull for a three-day residency. Over three days, they worked with staff and pupils aged 8-11 to co-create a funeral for the bouncy castle.

In the workshops the children explored themes of loss, imagination and environmental futures, ending with a collective ritual where they delivered eulogies and imagined new lives for the inflatable.

INDEPENDENT ARTS PROJECTS LTD (REGISTERED NUMBER: SC581505)

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
For The Year Ended 31 March 2025

Lou made the decision to give the inflatable to the school in Tobermory so that it can live it's life as an enormous bouncy castle and be bounced upon by people on Mull. It was given on the understanding that once it reaches the end of its life, that Lou will collect it, divert it from landfill and repurpose it in some way. To be continued…

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF
INDEPENDENT ARTS PROJECTS LTD

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025 set out on pages twelve to nineteen.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention :

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
