COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

MIDDLEMARCH COMMUNITY LED HOUSING CIC

Company Number: 12582729 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2025

Company activities and impact

In 2024-25, Middlemarch Community Led Housing CIC supported more than 40 community groups to establish and run community land trusts (CLTs), and to plan and deliver affordable homes for local people, primarily for social rent. Support was provided across a wide range of rural, coastal and urban-edge communities across Devon, Dorset, Somerset and the West of England. Through technical advice and hands-on guidance, Middlemarch enabled these communities to engage residents at grassroots level, form new CLTs, identify and assess suitable sites, shape housing designs, and make informed decisions on tenure, allocation and long-term stewardship. This support has strengthened local capacity, helped bring forward sites that might otherwise remain undeveloped, and attracted funding to areas with acute housing need. To date, Middlemarch-supported CLTs have delivered over 200 affordable homes, with a further 500 in development, ensuring long-term community ownership and affordability. Alongside its core CLT technical support programme, Middlemarch also delivered rural housing enabling services in partnership with the West of England Rural Network across North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset.

Consultation with stakeholders

Middlemarch’s key stakeholders are community groups and community land Trusts, local authorities, housing associations and funders. Stakeholders are consulted throughout the year through regular meetings, including quarterly online stakeholder meetings with community land trusts, housing association partners and local authorities. Middlemarch also holds routine update meetings with local authorities with whom it has contractual arrangements, as well as with Homes England. Feedback from these consultations is incorporated into project planning and Middlemarch’s strategic plan, and informs day-to-day operational decisions. Relevant feedback is also brought to the Board for discussion and action where appropriate.

Directors’ renumeration is detailed in the accounts (page 14). There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
