The company's activities benefited the community by providing essential material support and mentoring to people, mainly aged 17 to 21, who were homeless or living in hostels for homeless people. The company operated in Birmingham and the Black Country. During the year under review, we supported approximately 45 people. The company received valuable support from The People's Postcode Lotterythat gave us an unrestricted grant of £15,000. We also continued to receive personal donations from members of the public. Volunteers also continued to make essential contributions towards the delivery of Hostels of Hope's services.
We consulted with partners who own and operate homeless hostels for young adults located in Birmingham and the Black Country. By doing so we aimed to help our Service Users to recover from and survive the terrible experiences of homelessness and of living in a hostel for the homeless, respectively. We are especially to take part in consultations that help our Service Users to move on to safe and affordable permanent accommodation as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Nearly 100% of Hostels of Hope’s Service Users are self-declared as being LGBT+. The organisation is a niche market provider of housing and related services for them. Service Users are referred to Hostels of Hope after consultation with Local Authorities and Public Sector agencies, including the British Transport Police. In consultation with us the management of Birmingham’s Gay Quarter also provides referrals of destitute young people they find in the Quarter Regular consultation with our Service Users leads the directors and volunteers of Hostels of Hope CIC to provide Service Users with free counselling, guidance, training and mentoring. We also provide clothing and footwear, bedding, toiletries and sanitary wear. Free access to ICT & Internet is popular in computer rooms in partnership and consultation with the hostels we operate in. By being committed to regular consultation, we aim to build up the self-confidence of our Service Users whose lives have been shattered by homophobia and homelessness.
