Company activities and impact

Writing an arts council bid with assistance of Lara Clifton and in conversation with venues about coming to work with young women, teenage girls and non binary people to run photography workshops and interview them to make a short film. We were then successful with the funding bid, travelled to venues, including youth centres, schools and an art gallery and ran workshops with young people in photography, we interviewed them about their experience of being young women/teenagers/non binary. Workshops took place in Cardiff, Canterbury, Ramsgate, Hackney, London, Manchester and Middlesborough and Tindara and Catrin ran them. The stakeholders provided a space to work in, and young women and non binary people who were interested in talking about their experience of being young women in todays world as well as providing a member of staff to work with us. Photographing women and people going through menopause; specifically trans people, Roma women, women who have experienced homelessness and women who live in vehicles/boats, women who have experienced time in prison or mental health institutions; as these women were identified during feedback as missing from the exhibition which is being turned into a book with funding from The Arts Council and in collaboration with Black Dog Press. Director Catrin Osborne working with the assistance of Layla Stevens on collecting permissions forms from participants who have been photographed and who are being photographed to be in a book, and what else their pictures can be used for eg press, social media, etc. also working to create an online resource with all the photographs and interviews that the graphic designer from Black Dog Press can access. Director Tindara working on editing the short film with the young people’s photographs/interviews.

Consultation with stakeholders

Stake holders included Black Dog Press, Manchester Home Gallery, Bsix Sixth form in Hackney, youth groups in Cardiff, a school in Middlesborough and Pie Factory Youth Club in Ramsgate as well as with a youth group at Gulbenkian theatre in Canterbury. With Elaine for Cliftonville Community Centre in Margate who helped me access women and people going through menopause. The sessions were led by the participants’ interests, so we created the workshops to respond to what they said they wanted.
