General Description of The Company’s Activities and Impact The Ealing Club CIC seeks to highlight the music heritage of Ealing Borough while hoping to inspire new opportunities for LIVE MUSIC Our core message is about celebrating West London’s music heritage along the lines of Liverpool, Nashville, Belfast and Vienna, cities that all see the benefits in footfall and resident engagement. In early 2024, social media and promo activity saw ongoing support from afar from influencers including legendary broadcasters and even the Rolling Stones. This activity took place while new screening opportunities, for the Ealing Club film were planned with newly establishedlocal cinemas in Acton (ACTONE cinema) and The Ealing Project (Ealing Broadway) Ealing and Chiswick Book Festivals and Bill Wyman: In first quarter of 2024, the Ealing Club liaised with the newly established Ealing Book Festival and offered to contact Bill Wyman (ex-Rolling Stone) who had recently published a book about his wartime memories. TheEaling Club helped schedule a presentation for the April edition of the festival, a date which was postponed until later in the year. Bill Wyman’s presence at Ealing’s Pitzhanger Manor Museum and our success in helping sell tickets for the event, undoubtedly gave further traction to the acceptance of the Rolling Stones relationship with Ealing. The Ealing Club CIC helped initiate a second Bill Wyman event in Sept 2024 that was held as part of the Chiswick Book Festival. The interest generated by Bill Wyman event encouraged the Ealing Book Festival team to arrange a second music event with Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music) whose visit to Ealing gaveus an opportunity to personally, deliver a copy of Suburban Steps To Rockland to Mr Manzanera who indicated he would sit down and watch the Ealing Club film. Spreading the existence of this story to such figures will become easier once other official rganisations and younger musicians understand West London’s contribution to music. US ROCK HALL OF FAME (USRHF) In Spring 2024, The Ealing Club CIC had word that Alexis Korner was to be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, Cleveland, Ohio in October 2024. Thiswas announced by the organisation in April/May 2024. The Ealing club monitored and corrected key facts published online about Alexis Korner and Blues Incorporated by USRHF. Left uncorrected these facts would have undermined The Ealing Club’s place in the story of Alexis Korner and Blues Incorporated. Prior to the ceremony in October, the Ealing Club were contacted by the production team who were sourcing archive materials for the induction The Ealing Club provided advice on images and their provenance. The Ealing Club Blue plaque that we financed and mounted in March 2012 was to be included in the Rock Hall broadcast. The Ealing Club at The Hanwell Hootie Viaduct Pub, May 2024: following many weeks of liaison with Marshall Amplification and the Hanwell Hootie team, the Ealing Club successfully delivered a full programme for the Viaduct Pub in Hanwell as part of the Hanwell Hootie 2024. The Ealing Club delivered a stunning programme of acts for the ‘blues bar’ that represented all generations. The venue operator, Musicians, festival attendees and the Hootie organisers seemed delighted with music we provided on the day in twolocations as part of the wider event. Talk at Northfields Library The Ealing Club CIC was asked to talk about the history of the Ealing Club as part of the evening programme for Northfields library. The event brought together 20-30 local residents, some who had followed the music history of the area. The talk was followed by 20-30 min live music set conducted by Ealing Club partner, Geoff Garbow who played acoustic blues to entertain the guests. 2025 Ealing Blues Festival Marshall Records, Sons of Cream. The Ealing Blues Festival in July is a regular component of Ealing Club activities. It’s founder Robert Hokum (aka Salmons) was a founder and Director here at the Ealing Club CIC which started in order to complement the activity of the festival that was founded by Robert back in 1987, The 2024 edition of the festival was a landmark event that hosted a special launch of Terry Marshall’s (Marshall Amps) Blues Album that had seen contributions from Robert Hokum and a whole host of other British Blues contributors. The festival also brought ‘Sons ofCream’ as headliners, a line-up that performs the songs made famous by the likes of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker with their group, Cream. Film screenings: 2025 saw high profile several high profile and very well attended film screenings at ActOne Cinema and the Ealing Project. Shindig Magazine: Shindig Magazine published an article dedicated to Ealing band, The Eyes a sixties band that are still much admired by followers of 60’s music culture. The article notonly highlighted the band but accentuated Ealing’s role in pushing forward the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Who and Marshall Amplification. Many of London’s Museums and music journalists could learn much from the opening paragraph of this article written by music journalist Ian O’Sullivan. The Townshend Studio at UWL: The Ealing Club CIC liaised with the University of West London regarding a studio space being developed to house some of the most significant synthesisers used by Pete Townshend of the Who. The Ealing Club CIC was delighted to recommend key images and Ealing Club info that waseventually used to help illustrate Ealing’s music history. UWL kindly credited the Ealing ClubCIC for it’s participation. The project was launched with a landmark, Pete Townshend, interview chaired by Will Hodgkinson of The Times Newspaper. The UWL exhibition kindly credited The Ealing Club for its contribution to the exhibition.
Local festivals/Educational facilities/museums The Ealing Club’s contribution to the Ealing Blues Festival is increasingly recognised by festival stakeholders. The value of the blues heritage story is being expressed via the Ealing summer festivals marketing materials with increasing clarity. The Ealing Club CIC ran its merch stand with 15-20 volunteers over the blues weekend in July 2024. The Ealing Project: The Ealing Project hosted a screening of Suburban Steps To Rockland which filled the venue. ActOne Cinma – held 2/3 well attended screenings in 2024 of the Ealing Club film. Ealing Shopping Centre: ‘The Rock ‘n’ Roll Alley” exhibition continued in Ealing Broadway Centre. Ealing and Chiswick Book Festivals: as indicated above, the Ealing Club helped broker the presence of Bill Wyman and this support was much appreciated by both entities who will hopefully develop a better understanding of Ealing’s place in Rock ‘n’ Roll Music. Ealing Council: contacts were maintained with the arts and Culture team University of West London: As detailed above. Major Influencers and The Press: US ROCK HALL OF FAME, Cleveland, OHIO. In October 2024, The Ealing Club CIC lost its co-founder and Director, Robert Salmons (aka Hokum) following a long illness. His contribution and understanding to the contemporaryEaling Club cause was astounding and will be much missed at the CIC and way beyond, especially amongst fellow musicians and all those that have attended the Ealing Blues Festival since 1987.
