UKBBF CIC has engaged with its members and the wider business community as part of its mission to take action to mainstream biodiversity into the core of UK business decision making and activities with the aim to reverse biodiversity loss, achieve net gain and promote its sustainable use. Specifically, during between October 2023 to March 2025 the UKBBF CIC: Continued to promote the Nature Positive Business Pledge Established a Nature Positive Series, that has included member only webinars on specific biodiversity-related topics and sharing lessons learnt. Established and delivered an Insights Series, that brings together academic and businesses to discuss topical academic issues and research on biodiversity and what it means for businesses. Established a biodiversity metrics taskforce to help UKBBF members pilot the use of metrics and produced guidance on the use of biodiversity metrics. Organised various online webinars on specific issues and challenges UKBBF business members are having to manage, e.g. TNFD Held four face to face meeting, including members only sharing sessions, the UKBBF AGM and a Biodiversity Conference (October 2024) which brough together different stakeholders to discuss business and biodiversity issues. Attended and represented UK businesses at the UN CBD COP16 in Cali, Columbia. Engaged with Defra on matters relating to international biodiversity policy.
The UKBBF CIC has had regular consultations with a number of organisations. Most of these consultations have been to help inform the plans and activities of the UKBBF CIC and its members. Those stakeholders with whom the UKBBF CIC has regular engagement include: Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professions (ISEP), previously the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) – the UKBBF CIC engages regularly with ISEP on technical matters to keep UKBBF members informed with latest developments. ISEP has a position on the UKBBF CIC Steering Committee as an independent representative for the environmental profession. International Chamber of Commerce UK (ICC-UK) - the UKBBF CIC engages regularly with the ICC UK on technical matter to keep UKBBF CIC members informed with latest developments. ICC UK has as a position on the UKBBF CIC Steering Committee as an independent representative for UK businesses. Department of Environment & Rural Affairs (Defra) - the UKBBF CIC has had regular engagements with the international biodiversity team in Defra, which has specifically been in relation to negotiations before, during and after the UN CBD COP16. The UKBBF CIC has also engaged with Defra on the implication for businesses on the implementation of the Kunming Montreal Global Framework and the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures. Natural England – the UKBBF CIC has engaged with Natural England on how businesses may support and engage in the Nature Recovery Network. Joint Nature Conservancy Council (JNCC) – engaged and involved the JNCC in the development of guidance on the use of biodiversity metrics. UN Convention on Biological Diversity – the UKBBF CIC is a member of the Global Partnership for Business & Biodiversity to obtain details and be kept informed on international policy matters. Fauna & Flora – as a position on the UKBBF CIC Steering Committee as an independent representative of civil society. The UKBBF is a member of the Biodiversity Credit Association, the TNFD Forum and the Nature Positive Initiative. The UKBBF is also an accredited observer of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UN CBD) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
