The Friends of Lyme & Wood Country Park CIC supports and improves the country park at Lyme & Wood through improvements in the park, providing ongoing and improved access to all sectors of the local community of Haydock and Newton-le-Willows through regular park maintenance and improvement projects. The CIC also helps ecological and biodiversity improvements for the benefit of the local environment and wildlife. The volunteer community group was established in 2013 and became a CIC in 2023. There are regular ‘working party’ sessions held with local volunteers to further the objectives of the company to improve the community’s enjoyment of the park. Examples include community litter picks, bulb planting, and repairing and maintaining benches, signage, and park pathways and entrances. Ecological and biodiversity improvements are also an objective of the volunteer group, for example supporting bee hives and bird boxes located within the park. The group also partners with local community groups on events and activities within the park, for the benefit of the local community.
The group holds weekly working parties for volunteers, and monthly volunteer meetings. These meetings are a forum for all volunteers to contribute ideas and suggestions, and highlight any areas for improvement in the park. Representatives from the landowner, Enovert Ltd. are often present at these meetings. The volunteers also provide regular information to and take suggestions from an online community with 3,000 members of the local community. The group also has works with local community groups such as: Green Town St Helens CIC - partnering to deliver biodiversity workshops for children and young people within the park Rotary Club of Newton-le-Willows Local schools, church organisations, and Brownie groups.
