The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2025

Principal activities of the company

The principal activity of the company during the financial year was the provision of specialist educational support for children facing barriers to accessing full-time schooling or nursery, due to additional needs and developmental challenges. Operating as a communication and development centre and alternative provision, Cornerstone Learning delivered personalised, therapeutic, and skills-based learning programmes designed to help children rebuild confidence, develop social and emotional skills, and re-engage with education. Activities included small-group and one-to-one teaching, creative and sensory-based learning, outdoor education, and social development initiatives. The company worked collaboratively with families, local authorities, and partner schools to ensure tailored support for each child’s individual needs and longer-term outcomes. In its first year of operation (2024–2025), the company supported six children at its centre and provided outreach support to two additional children in local schools and nurseries. A training event was also delivered to families to enhance their capacity to support their child’s development. Through these activities, Cornerstone Learning has made a meaningful contribution to the local community by improving communication outcomes for children, reducing barriers to learning, and fostering inclusive educational opportunities.

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover comprises income from restricted grants, unrestricted grants, and revenue generated through service delivery. The company recognises turnover in accordance with the accruals concept and relevant accounting standards, ensuring income is matched to the period in which it is earned. Restricted Grants Income from restricted grants is recognised as turnover when the conditions attached to the funding have been met. Where grants are received in advance of meeting these conditions, the income is deferred and recognised as a liability until the associated activities are completed. Unrestricted Grants and Donations Unrestricted grants and donations are recognised as turnover when received or receivable, provided there is reasonable assurance of receipt and no performance conditions attached. Revenue from Services Income from services, including educational programmes, workshops, and consultancy, is recognised when the service is delivered and the company has entitlement to the income. Where services are invoiced in advance, income is deferred and recognised upon delivery.
