In the quest to try and address the severe coastal erosion that Pakefield is currently experiencing, the company was established to provide an active link between the local community, businesses, agencies, and both local and national Government offices. With very little funding available through the latter, we are seeking a workable solution, which will enable us to try and pursue the necessary funding from other sources. Our first year was marred from both the dissolve of our areas inter-counties Coastal Management team, and with that, promised funding, locally and nationally, was no longer available. However, we have managed to re-establish a working relationship with our local council, which in turn, upon our request, has approached the local residents whose homes are threatened, to offer advice and hopefully support. With initial emergency and long term plans having to be redrawn, we again approached a local tourist business who has lost a considerable amount of their land to the sea, to seek possible joint funding opportunities. This resulted in them establishing a link with the multi agency Water Management Alliance, which hopefully will have a favourable outcome. The erosion to our cliff raises many safety issues, we regularly monitor this problem, reporting possible dangers the community and our Coastal Management team. In the financial year 2024-2025 we believe that our company has benefited the community in the following ways: - By establishing a link with our local council to ensure that they receive regular updates, a workable emergency plan, and recording their housing and social needs in the event of their properties being threatened. - By inviting the community to attend our first AGM to enable us to deliver an up to date account of our activities over our first year. - By daily monitoring our cliff and foreshore, and reporting any concerns to the appropriate agencies, and to ensure as much as we can, that the community is kept informed at all times of any changes and possible dangers.
Our companies stakeholders are all of our local community, and visitors to the area. We make regular updates on our website, and encourage their involvement to help save our piece of coastline. Overall their response is enthusiastic, but we feel that until a favourable solution is found, their involvement is at present limited. Following the news of the withdrawal of funding, we held a local meeting to explain the situation, and encourage their involvement, as this was a community problem, and not just for those whose homes were at risk.
