Since beginning to trade in November 2024, CineCertified has made significant progress in developing and delivering its community-focused aims. In February 2025, the organisation formally introduced its vision to the film industry at the BSC Expo, marking its initial fundraising efforts for the development of a digital version of its Trainee Logbook. Fundraising continued through a supporter-led raffle, and, with the combined support of 14 financial patrons and director loans, CineCertified appointed Boom Software to build a free, accessible training application for the UK camera department. Throughout the year, the company hosted two community-oriented events - one to thank existing supporters and another to launch the new application in November - both designed to raise awareness and attract further backing. Since launch, the app has seen strong early engagement, with more than 250 users signing up in its first week. The application directly benefits the community by providing an accessible learning pathway for new entrants into the camera department, while also supporting working crews by enabling transparent tracking of trainee progress. By establishing a standardised skills benchmark and introducing a practical “skill passport” system, CineCertified is contributing to a more inclusive, accountable, and future-ready industry.
CineCertified’s stakeholders include freelancers working within the film industry, as well as the organisations and companies that make up or collaborate closely with the camera department. As a community-driven initiative involving more than 100 contributors, CineCertified has engaged extensively with its stakeholders throughout the creation and development of its training framework. The company has worked directly with the ACO, GBCT, and GTC, along with nearly 100 camera-related companies, to ensure that freelancer needs are accurately understood and that long-standing industry challenges are addressed. Stakeholders have been actively consulted from the outset, contributing to the design and development of the framework and associated tools. All feedback and requests have been openly discussed, and where supported by the wider community, have been integrated into the final system, ensuring that the project remains responsive, inclusive, and aligned with industry needs.
