During the financial year, Belfast Intercultural Romanian Community Association delivered activities across Northern Ireland that supported inclusion, access to services and community wellbeing, particularly for Romanian families and vulnerable groups. The association continued to deliver Romanian Saturday Language Schools, supporting children and young people in learning the Romanian language, culture and history. These activities strengthened cultural identity, promoted bilingualism and supported children’s educational development, while helping families remain connected to their heritage. Throughout the year, the association participated in cultural festivals and public events across Northern Ireland, promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and positive community relations. These activities increased awareness and appreciation of Romanian culture and contributed to a more inclusive multicultural society. A significant area of work focused on improving access to public services. The association provided translation and community mediation to ensure that information issued by public authorities was accessible and clearly understood by Romanian speakers. This helped individuals and families better navigate healthcare, education and other essential public systems. In partnership with a legal firm, the association supported children with disabilities and their families to access the public healthcare system and to navigate the education system in Northern Ireland more effectively. This partnership enabled families to better understand their rights, advocate for appropriate support and make informed decisions regarding health and educational provision for their children. As a result, families experienced reduced stress and improved confidence when engaging with statutory services. The association also organised face-to-face community meetings across Northern Ireland, creating safe spaces for dialogue, peer support and information sharing. These meetings strengthened trust, encouraged community participation and ensured that services were responsive to identified needs. All funding was managed responsibly and directed towards activities that delivered clear social impact, reduced inequalities and supported a more informed, empowered and connected community across Northern Ireland.
