Directors' report period ended 30 November 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 November 2025

Principal activities of the company

The directors present their report on the principal activities of the company for the financial year. The principal activity of Belfast Intercultural Romanian Community Association is to support Romanian-speaking communities across Northern Ireland, including Romanian nationals, Moldovan nationals with dual citizenship and Roma communities, by promoting social inclusion, equality of access to public services, cultural identity and positive intercultural relations. During the financial year, the company continued the delivery of Romanian Saturday Language Schools, providing educational and cultural support for children and young people. These activities focused on Romanian language learning, cultural heritage and identity, supporting bilingual development and strengthening links between families and the wider community. The company actively participated in cultural festivals and public events across Northern Ireland, promoting cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. Through these events, the association contributed to increased awareness and understanding of Romanian culture and supported community cohesion within a multicultural society. A key area of the company’s work was acting as a principal pillar in the translation and community mediation of information issued by public authorities. The association played a vital role in translating and explaining information from the education sector, public health services and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), ensuring that Romanian-speaking community members could access accurate, timely and reliable information. This role was particularly critical during the public disorder and unrest that took place in Ballymena during the summer. During this period, many Romanian families were affected, with some being temporarily relocated from their homes or leaving their accommodation due to safety concerns. The association worked closely with statutory bodies to support affected families by translating official guidance, mediating communication with authorities and helping families understand available support and safeguarding measures. This intervention helped reduce fear, confusion and isolation at a time of significant distress for the community. The company also organised face-to-face community meetings across Northern Ireland, providing safe and inclusive spaces for dialogue, information sharing and peer support. These meetings enabled the company to identify emerging needs and respond directly to community concerns. In addition, the company developed partnerships with a legal firm to support children with disabilities and their families within Romanian-speaking communities. Through this partnership, families were assisted in accessing the public healthcare system and navigating the education system in Northern Ireland, helping them better understand their rights and advocate for appropriate support. The directors believe that these activities have made a significant contribution to community resilience, improved access to essential services and strengthened trust between Romanian-speaking communities and public institutions across Northern Ireland.
