Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases: Plant and machinery 5 year straight line Motor vehicles 5 year straight line Fixtures and fitting 5 year straight line

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

LEEDS WOOD RECYCLING CIC

Company Number: 11272758 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2025

Company activities and impact

In 2024, Leeds Wood Recycling operated in a challenging economic climate, with high interest rates and reduced consumer spending affecting small businesses across the UK. Despite rising costs and lower demand, we focused on maintaining our core services -collecting waste wood, providing affordable reclaimed timber, and continuing our environmental and social mission. Our volunteers played a vital role in diverting timber from landfill through de-nailing, repurposing and reuse, helping to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability. This year our measured carbon emissions were 13.82 tCO2e, with 412 tCO2e offset through our activities. We launched new community and training projects, including a Work Experience Programme with Leeds City Council’s Community Committees, supporting nine young people from Beeston and Holbeck with hands-on experience, health and safety training, and employability support. Three participants achieved CSCS qualifications, and two moved into employment. Working with The Prince’s Trust, we also delivered an eco wood manufacturing course teaching practical skills and sustainable design. Our new ReMakeIt range of reclaimed timber craft kits encouraged customers to reuse materials creatively, supporting our mission to reduce waste.

Consultation with stakeholders

Leeds Wood Recycling consults regularly with its key stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, customers, and community partners. We gather feedback through team meetings, volunteer sessions, and customer conversations in our timber shop. Partnerships with Leeds City Council’s Community Committees, The Prince’s Trust, and local social enterprises such as Scrap Creative Reuse and Seagulls Repaint help us shape our training, employment, and reuse projects. Input from these groups ensures our services remain relevant to community needs and supports our environmental mission to reduce waste, promote skills, and strengthen local connections.
