Company activities and impact

During the reporting period, Code Coven Academy CIC delivered the Aurora programme, funded by the BFI through the National Lottery Innovation Challenge Fund. Aurora is a two-year initiative designed to support underrepresented game development studios in building sustainable businesses, strengthening creative capability, and increasing their long-term participation in the UK games sector. The programme combines structured learning, expert mentorship, production support, business development guidance, and facilitated introductions to publishers, investors, and platforms. Aurora directly benefited the community by removing systemic barriers that disproportionately affect marginalised founders. The programme provided tailored education, pastoral support, and access to industry networks that are typically difficult for small or marginalised-led studios to reach. Participating teams reported increased confidence, improved pitch materials, clearer business strategies, and measurable progress towards securing funding or partnerships. The programme also strengthened representation within the UK creative economy by nurturing studios that prioritise inclusive storytelling, ethical leadership, and sustainable development practices. Through Aurora, the Academy contributed to sector innovation, improved equity of opportunity, and supported the creation of new cultural works with public value.
