The company was set up to plan and carry out the regeneration of the Civic Rose Garden in St Albans. This is a public garden which had fallen into disrepair due to lack of funding over several years. A team of volunteers were recruited, permission to work in the site obtained from the district council, a design concept developed and some grant money was obtained and donations of many plants received. The team of volunteers has carried out significant work, achieved a significant improvement, created strong links with stakeholder and established foundation needed to carry through the project.
The company has established strong links with these stakeholders: St Albans District Council Officers, securing permission to work in the garden and obtaining financial support with some hard landscaping to improve access. St Albans Civic Society, became members, planted a tree and roses commemorating the battle in the Wars of the Roses in the city. St Albans City Guides, working to include the garden in a city walk and develop a specific “Green Walk” linking up all the green spaces. The Soroptimists, supporting their mission to support women and girls from abuse and violence by planting several hundred orange tulips and planting a tree in memory of the former chairwoman. St Albans Arc and Arc, became members and used their services to research the history of the garden, and found that it will soon celebrate its centenary. Communities1st, became members and have benefitted with help and advice. The were able to provide employees on day release to help replant a hedge. St Peter’s ward councillors and Hertfordshire county councillor, working with them and incorporating their ideas to make St Albans a greener and more sustainable city. St Albans City School. We have hosted visits and will be working with their gardening club and environment group providing practical experience of attracting pollinating insects and promoting sustainability. Collaborating with BID to raise the profile of the garden and increase foot fall. Working with St Albans College to provide students with an opportunity to design and construct and bench. Provided work experience for apprentices employed by SADC’s main contractor, laying out and creating the structure for the herb bed.
