COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

TISSUES AND ISSUES CIC

Year Ending: 31 March 2025

Company activities and impact

Tissues and Issues CIC was established in March 2021 as a Community Interest Company to provide meaningful support and benefit to the local community. The organisation focuses on supporting parents and carers of children with additional needs, whether or not a formal diagnosis has been obtained. To deliver this support, Tissues and Issues CIC applies for grants from a wide range of sources. These funds enable us to address several areas of community need, including food poverty, where we have operated a food bank for families experiencing hardship. We also run clubs and support groups aimed at improving the mental health and wellbeing of parents and carers, providing safe spaces to connect with others who share similar experiences. In addition, we offer practical assistance and guidance with completing essential forms such as Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), and Personal Independence Payment (PIP), helping families to access the support they are entitled to. All of our directors have lived experience of caring for children with additional needs, and we use this insight to offer compassionate, informed support to individuals and families who may be struggling.

Consultation with stakeholders

We regularly consult with our stakeholders, primarily parents and carers of children with additional needs, through our closed Facebook support group. This group provides a safe and supportive space where members can share knowledge, experiences, and advice with one another. The directors and volunteers closely monitor posts to ensure discussions remain respectful, non-inflammatory, and do not include the naming of professionals or schools in inappropriate contexts. We frequently ask group members what support they currently need and how Tissues and Issues CIC can help. As all staff are volunteers with lived experience and their own SEN families, we use our understanding to respond to these needs as effectively as possible. Where we are unable to provide direct support, we signpost families to relevant services or organisations that can assist them.
