CREATING CRAFTS AND BLOOMS CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 March 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 March 2025

Principal activities of the company

During the year, the company continued its underlying activity of providing crocheted blankets to vulnerable members of the community, which remains the principal way in which we deliver our mission and teach crochet skills to those who wish to learn. Blankets produced through our project (Giving the Gift of Warmth) are donated to local hospices, caregiving organisations and to individuals identified as being in need, including those living in care home and in their own homes. These donations aim to provide warmth, comfort, and reassurance to individuals who may be experiencing illness, isolation, or other challenging circumstances. As part of our ongoing commitment to community engagement, the Director has remained actively involved in teaching crochet to individuals of varying skill levels. These sessions are designed to be inclusive and supportive, allowing participants to learn at their own pace while developing a creative skill that can be used for personal enjoyment, practical use, and social connection. The activity also promotes wellbeing, self-expression, and confidence among participants. Importantly, members who have previously been taught are now passing on their skills to others, enabling knowledge to be shared more widely and allowing the reach of the company’s activities to expand organically within the community. The Director wishes to express their ongoing gratitude to supporters, volunteers, and participants, whose continued encouragement and involvement make these activities possible. The company remains committed to expanding its reach and maintaining its positive impact within the community in the coming year.

Political and charitable donations

The company has continued to participate in fundraising events and community initiatives throughout the year. These activities bring new skills to members, help to sustain our own projects and enable to give back wherever possible, supporting other local charitable organisations whose work aligns with our values. No political donations were made.

Company activities and impact

The company has continued to strengthen and expand its physical crafting communities across Hampshire. Our social groups have gone from strength to strength, fostering meaningful connections and impactful social bonds among crafters. We are grateful to the venues that have hosted our groups, allowing us to thrive, and we make every effort to give back to these organisations whenever possible. Still our principal project, our Giving the Gift of Warmth project continues to make a real difference. We are proud to keep creating and gifting lots of blankets to local hospices, care homes, and vulnerable individuals. It’s amazing to see the generosity of our members, and how crafting can bring comfort and warmth to both makers and recipients. To further expand our reach and support financial sustainability, we have actively organised Craft Fairs and fundraising events, promoting the company and raising funds for our supporters and other charitable organisations. Following the success of the Crocheted Coral Reef, which is now on long-term display at a Hampshire University, our crafters turned their creativity to another project: a collection of crocheted fruits and vegetables. These were made to decorate a handmade barrow, intended to be used when distributing real produce to the local community. While the barrow looked quite bare when it wasn’t in use, the crocheted fruits and vegetables added colour, charm, and life to the display, ensuring it always looked inviting. The project not only provided a fun and creative challenge for our members but also helped highlight the barrow and the community food distribution initiative, making it more visible and engaging for those receiving fresh produce. This project is a great example of how our crafting activities go beyond making beautiful items, they also support community engagement, creativity, and social connection, while adding a touch of joy to practical initiatives. In conclusion, as we moved through our third year, we are proud of the progress made. We remain committed to providing enriching opportunities for crafters, supporting those in need, and building a sustainable future for the company and the communities we serve.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Company’s stakeholders are a diverse group of people and organisations who support our work in different ways. This includes our dedicated volunteers, generous donors, active fundraisers, and supporters who provide assistance through funding applications and use of venues. Volunteers: Our volunteers generously contribute their time, skills, and materials to craft items for the community. They are at the heart of everything we do, helping to enrich lives and build stronger local connections. For funding stakeholders, we provide periodic reports detailing how funds have been used, ensuring transparency and accountability. The company values communication and collaboration with all its stakeholders and remains committed to fostering positive relationships with volunteers, donors, and funding supporters. Donors, Funding Supporters, and Venue Providers: This group includes those who make financial donations, provide funding through formal applications, or generously offer venues for our activities. Their support is vital in helping us sustain and expand our projects, enabling us to reach and benefit more people in the community. Stakeholders: We keep our stakeholders up to date through a quarterly newsletter and regular social media posts. Anyone who wishes to stay connected can join our mailing list or follow us online. We also encourage stakeholders to help identify individuals or groups who would benefit from the items we create, ensuring they reach those who need them most. All our blanket donations are given freely, the Company and its stakeholders ask for nothing in return, focusing entirely on giving, supporting others, and strengthening our communities.
