Company activities and impact

DemocraFest CIC continued its mission to reignite young people’s interest in democracy by creating engaging, non-partisan forums for discussion and participation on issues of the day. Aimed at those aged 18 to 35 who are often politically disengaged and less likely to vote, DemocraFest fills the gap in British public life for democratic engagement that is fun, youthful, and relevant to a younger audience. The CIC organises festivals and mini-events combining debate, music, art, and discussion to make democratic participation accessible, inclusive, and inspiring. Key events included a student-led forum on democratic participation at KCL Politics x Royal Society of Arts x DemocraFest (3 October 2024); “Could Citizens’ Assemblies Save Democracy?” at the Battle of Ideas Festival (19 October 2024); a roundtable with Exeter Women in Politics on social media and community (20 February 2025); an Intergenerational Democracy Panel with the London Student Network at the Hippodrome Casino (18 March 2025); and two transatlantic debates at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (November and December 2024). Although logistical issues postponed Britain’s first full-scale democracy festival, groundwork and partnership development continued throughout the year to ensure delivery in the next period. The CIC also partnered with social impact organisations including the Royal Society of Arts, King’s College London Politics Society, and the London Students Network to run mini DemocraFests. Through these programmes and events, DemocraFest encouraged young people to discuss pressing issues such as mental health, housing, climate change, education, and democratic renewal; provided inclusive spaces for public speaking and active learning; helped participants understand how democracy affects them and how they can influence decisions; and reinvested all funding and personal contributions to maximise community benefit rather than profit.

Consultation with stakeholders

DemocraFest CIC engages with young people, volunteers, and partner organisations to co-design its activities. Partners include London Students Network, KCL Politics Society among others. Consultation takes place through: Regular newsletters to subscribers who consist mainly of our stakeholders; Event feedback forms and informal surveys; Roundtable discussions with university societies and youth-led networks; and Collaboration with speakers and organisers to ensure events reflect young people’s priorities and lived experiences.
