Trustees Annual Report
The directors present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025.
Form and purpose of the Charitable Company
The charitable company was established to provide an independent local radio station with the remit of promoting health, welfare, voluntary organisations, educational establishments and the local economy and relief from loneliness whilst continuing to operate on a voluntary, non profit generating basis.
Activities and Accounts
Radio North Angus continued to operate efficiently throughout the year.

There are four large media companies that own the vast majority of commercial radio stations in Britain. Economic factors have led to the centralisation of these stations resulting in the loss of a great amount of localness over the past 15 years, e.g. much of the output in Scotland is generated in Glasgow.

There are a few stations that operate independently of which RNA is one, but is unique in maintaining a highly localised service from 5.30am to 2.00am the following day on FM, DAB, and online on entirely a voluntary basis. Rather than be profit-motivated, our remit is to provide support to the community by promoting statutory and voluntary organisations to achieve their goals whilst assisting businesses by offering the lowest rate of adverising in commercial radio.

However, we are facing challenges in the forthcoming year. Over the past two years we have lost some presenters owing to two passing away, and others leaving due to ill health or family commitments. Accordingly, we are currently holding a recruitment campaign to attract prospective presenters. We have been obliged to transfer our Monifieth transmitter from the original High School, which is due for demoliation, to Seaview Primary and to bear the cost. Our commercial radio licence is due for renewal for a 12 year period at a fee of £15,000, for turnover in the region of £7,000 per annum.

RNA had provided music, commentary, and public address equipment at a number of events across the county, and talks had been given to various groups.

Programming was mantained at a satisfactory level along with financial stability.

In conclusion, I wish to record grateful appreciation to the NHS and Angus Council, and to advertisers, business concerns, organisations, individuals, and the RNA volunteers for support throughout the financial year 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.
Financial performance
The year ended with a small deficit of £950 (2024 deficit of £1,067). Reserves held at the year end were £17,065 (2024 £18,015).

The directors are proactively working to increase advertising revenue.

The Company’s Directors are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Companies Act 2006, the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The Directors consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the company and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the Directors concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention.

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Account Regulations, and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

Notes to the Accounts
for the year ended 31 March 2025
1 Accounting policies
Basis of preparation
The financial statements and accounts have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice appplicable to charities preparing accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), Charities SORP (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
Income from charitable activities
Income from charitable activities is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.
Tangible fixed assets
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows:
Plant and machinery over 5 years
Debtors
Short term debtors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price), less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts.
Creditors
Short term creditors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price). Loans and other financial liabilities are initially recognised at transaction price net of any transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost determined using the effective interest method.
Provisions
Provisions (ie liabilities of uncertain timing or amount) are recognised when there is an obligation at the reporting date as a result of a past event, it is probable that economic benefit will be transferred to settle the obligation and the amount of the obligation can be estimated reliably.
Reserves Policy
The directors have agreed a reserves policy to hold sufficient reserves to cover the cost of the Independent Local Commercial Radio Licence which is due in July 2026 at an estimated cost of £15,000. Current reserves for 2025 are £17,065 (2024 £18,015).
