During the financial year, the company continued to deliver its community interest objectives by reducing digital exclusion and improving access to essential digital skills and support, particularly for people who face barriers due to age, income, health, disability, mobility, or lack of confidence with technology. Activities and Achievements The company expanded its community-based digital skills provision, with a stronger emphasis on practical, everyday technology use. Support enabled people to access online services, stay connected with family and friends, and manage routine digital tasks increasingly required for daily life. Key activities during the year included: - Expanded our provision of digital skills support to individuals, community groups, social enterprises, and local charitable organisations. - Delivering a mix of structured short courses and informal drop-in sessions, allowing learners to progress at their own pace. - Focusing on everyday tech use, we help people learn how to access online services, stay in touch with family, and manage day-to-day digital tasks. - Introducing AI awareness and practical guidance, helping people understand what artificial intelligence is, where they may encounter it in daily life, and how to use it safely and responsibly. - Providing assisted support for accessing digital-only public services, including healthcare, housing, and benefits, where online processes create barriers. - Increasing focus on online safety, including scam awareness, phishing, fraud prevention, and protecting personal information. - Producing plain-English learning materials and handouts to support people with low confidence, limited digital experience, or additional learning needs. - Offering additional one-to-one support for individuals requiring more time, accessibility adjustments, or tailored learning approaches. - Supported a wider range of devices, including laptops, tablets, smartphones, printers, and basic home connectivity issues. - Continuing to provide free or subsidised digital support to people on low incomes, start-up social enterprises and local charities, funded through trading activity and grant funding. - Maintaining and developing trading activity, including online selling, with income reinvested into community services. Community Benefit and Impact The company’s activities helped to reduce digital exclusion and social isolation, particularly among older adults and individuals affected by health or mobility issues. By improving confidence and skills in using digital technology, beneficiaries were better able to access essential services, maintain social connections, and participate more fully in modern society. The company continued to deliver clear community benefit by supporting people who might otherwise be left behind by rapid digital change in a safe, inclusive, and accessible way.
The company’s stakeholders are individuals, entrepreneurs, social enterprises, charities, community groups, small and medium employers within Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and the surrounding counties. Consultation has been gained through the ‘application for support’ administrative processes, for example: - Completion of technology support contract before support services take place. - 1-to-1 technology consultation. - Completion of session records, where regular feedback is requested. - Completion of evaluation sheets, questionnaires, surveys throughout support. - Identifying problems and areas of concern through networking and during support process. - Identifying delivery and strategic IT problems at business networking meetings. - Feedback through social media platforms, such as Facebook groups, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn etc. - Through attendance of local and national technology/business meetings, expos, and events. Monitoring and evaluation processes are ongoing and help build a profile of local IT needs, which helps us meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders more effectively. Ongoing research and consultation help to identify common technology problems that many people face on a day-to-day basis: support services are tailored to meet client needs and informs the development of new courses and support services.
