| The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019). |
| OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES |
| Objectives and aims |
| The International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy (IAFP) promotes the mental health of offenders and victims through the use of psychotherapeutic understanding, risk assessment, and treatment techniques and advances understanding about forensic psychotherapeutic practice. |
| Significant activities |
| - developing educational programs around the world for mental health practitioners, the public, and offenders to enhance their understanding of the principles and practice of forensic psychotherapy |
| - publishing and disseminating new scholarly articles about forensic psychotherapy |
| - maintaining a database of knowledge about forensic psychotherapy, including a website available to the public |
| - Using knowledge about the principles and practice of forensic psychotherapy to inform policy decisions |
| - encouraging collaborations between practitioners and agencies working with offenders internationally |

| ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE |
| Charitable activities |
| This has been another very productive year in working towards the IAFP's aim to promote the health of offenders and victims through the use of psychotherapeutic understanding, risk assessment and treatment techniques and to advance understanding about forensic psychotherapeutic practice. |
| Moustafa Saoud was elected as Treasurer, Leo Cabrer was elected as Assistant Treasurer. John Kearney, Anna Motz, Natalia Frolova, Franco Scarpa and Massimo De Mari were elected to the Executive Board. |
| Annual Conference |
| The 2023 Annual Conference took place in Turin, Italy on the theme of "From Pain to Violence: Prevention and Intervention." Nine keynote speakers from the UK, Italy and France, eighteen parallel presentations plus two large group discussions provided an extensive opportunity to hear from experts in the field and share experiences with other delegates. |
| The 2024 Annual Conference (our 32nd annual event) was held in Montpellier, France on the theme of "The Perverse Organisation: Turning a Blind Eye to Sexual Violence." Ten keynote speakers from the UK, France, Israel, Australia and the USA, sixteen parallel presentations plus two large group discussions were held. On the Thursday we held a preconference day on the subject of the "Flair of French Forensics." |
| Gill McGauley Award |
| At the 2023 Annual Conference, we had joint winners of the Gill McGauley Award, in recognition of their outstanding scholarly contribution to the field of forensic psychotherapy at an IAFP conference - Sarah Brand's session on "Music is the Enemy"; and Nelle Van Damme's session on "Radio Begijnenstraat" |
| Our 2024 award winner was Naomi Rule with a presentation entitled "A Tale Told By An Idiot: Exploring the ethical dilemma of providing trauma-informed and recovery focused treatment pathways system that necessitates physical oppression and emotional sublimation." |
| Evening Seminars |
| These low-cost, bi-monthly evening seminars continue to be a means of disseminating knowledge and fostering links with the wider community. The majority of these sessions are recorded and available to those who cannot attend the live presentations. During the past year we have held the following seminars: |

| The International journal of Forensic Psychotherapy continues to go from strength to strength. It is available in both hard and electronic versions and is included as part of the Membership subscription. |

| National Associations Committee |
| This group has continued to meet over the year and have formalised a way of creating affiliates. The Australian and UK associations were our first affiliates. The French association held their first inaugural seminar in Paris in the Autumn of 2023. |

| Reserves policy |
| The Charity has a reserves policy to hold 3 months costs in reserve to enable the Charity to cover costs and obligations in the event of business closure. |
| STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT |
| Governing document |
| The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006. |

| The IAFP is governed by a constitution and by-laws (revised April 2012). |

| Recruitment and appointment of new trustees |
| The IAFP appointed each of its officers (President, Honorary Life President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President) to be trustees of the Charity. Nominees for these positions (except Honorary Life President) are solicited from the IAFP membership on an annual basis, and elections are then held at the Annual General Meeting. Officers must be members of the IAFP and are elected to three-year terms. |
| As most of our officers will be completing their tenure and standing down from the Board within the next year, the new trustees are - Dr Anne Aiyegbusi, Dr Moustafa Saoud and Dr Jack Blake. Dr Estela Welldon is standing down as a trustee due to ill-health. |
| For banking purposes, it has been agreed that Treasurers need to be UK based. |

| I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 March 2025. |
| Responsibilities and basis of report |
| As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act'). |
| Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity's accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act. |

| I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe: |
| 1. | accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or |
| 2. | the accounts do not accord with those records; or |
| 3. | the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or |
| 4. | the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)). |

| Basis of preparing the financial statements |
| The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. |

| All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. |
| Expenditure |
| Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. |
