During the financial year, the company has continued to operate as a community interest company with the primary purpose of supporting social, economic and environmental wellbeing within Exeter and the surrounding area. Its principal activities have centred on the operation of Co Create Exeter as a community-focused space that supports collaboration, skills development, local enterprise and social connection. The company’s activities have benefited the community by providing accessible workspace, events and programmes that enable individuals, community groups and small organisations to develop ideas, share knowledge and work collaboratively. In particular, the company has supported early-stage social enterprises, freelancers and voluntary groups who might otherwise face barriers to accessing suitable space or professional networks. By offering flexible and affordable facilities, the company has contributed to reducing isolation and improving opportunities for participation in economic and civic life. Throughout the year, the company has hosted workshops, talks and community-led events focused on creativity, sustainability, wellbeing and social innovation. These activities have created opportunities for local residents to acquire new skills, exchange ideas and build supportive relationships, thereby strengthening community cohesion. The company has also provided a platform for local practitioners and facilitators to deliver their services and reach wider audiences. The company’s activities have had a positive economic impact by supporting local employment and self-employment, both directly through its operations and indirectly by enabling local people to develop viable projects and income-generating activities. Where possible, the company has sought to work with local suppliers and collaborators, thereby retaining economic value within the local area. In delivering its activities, the company has remained committed to its community interest objectives and to reinvesting any surplus in furthering its social purpose. The directors consider that the company has operated for the benefit of the community as a whole, with particular regard to inclusion, accessibility and long-term social value.
The company’s principal stakeholders include individuals and organisations who use or benefit from Co Create Exeter, including local residents, community groups, freelancers, social enterprises, facilitators and partner organisations operating within Exeter and the surrounding area. Stakeholder engagement has been an integral part of the company’s activities and governance throughout the financial year. The directors and management team maintain ongoing informal consultation with stakeholders through regular interaction within the space, including day-to-day conversations, feedback received during events and workshops, and discussions with individuals and groups who use the facilities. This direct engagement has informed decisions relating to programming, accessibility, pricing structures and the use of space, ensuring that the company’s activities remain responsive to community needs. In addition, the company has sought structured feedback from users and participants through surveys and post-event feedback forms. These have provided insight into stakeholder experiences, identified areas for improvement and highlighted emerging needs within the local community, particularly in relation to skills development, collaboration opportunities and wellbeing-focused activities. The company also consults with delivery partners, facilitators and local organisations when developing new programmes or initiatives, ensuring that activities are aligned with local priorities and complement existing provision rather than duplicating it. Feedback from these stakeholders has influenced the design of events, the balance between commercial and community use of the space, and the company’s approach to inclusivity and affordability. The directors consider that this combination of ongoing informal engagement and structured feedback mechanisms has enabled the company to take account of stakeholder views in a proportionate and effective manner, consistent with its size and resources, and to continue operating in a way that serves the community interest.
