The principal activities of the company during the year were the provision of mental health and wellbeing projects, resources and community based initiatives, with a focus on lived experience, prevention, and public awareness.

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Tangible fixed assets are depreciated on a straight-line basis over their estimated useful economic lives. Computer equipment and IT hardware are depreciated over four years. Depreciation is charged from the month of acquisition.

Company activities and impact

During the financial year, the company’s activities focused on community benefit through lived-experience-led mental health and suicide prevention work. Funding received during the period was applied to research, development, engagement and creative outputs intended to improve understanding, awareness and prevention of harm related to substance use and mental health. Key activity during the year included further development of The Co-alc Alliance documentary project, which explores the links between alcohol, cocaine use and suicide risk, centring bereaved families, lived experience and professional insight. Work undertaken included research, stakeholder engagement, interviews, content development and production planning, with the aim of contributing to improved public understanding and informing future prevention approaches. Additional activity supported awareness-raising, communications, administration and infrastructure required to sustain community-focused projects, ensuring that grant funding was used in line with its intended social purpose. No commercial trading activity was undertaken during the year.

Consultation with stakeholders

During the financial year, the company undertook ongoing consultation with a range of stakeholders to inform its activities, priorities, and development work. These consultations were primarily focused on lived-experience insight, service-user perspectives, and system-level learning in relation to mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention. Stakeholder engagement included: People with lived experience of mental health distress, substance use, and suicide bereavement, whose insights informed project direction, messaging, and ethical considerations. Bereaved family members, particularly those connected to substance-related deaths, contributing to consultation around the development of the Co-alc Alliance documentary and wider awareness work. The Co-alc Alliance steering and contributor group, involving collaborative discussion on documentary development, research themes, and future dissemination. Third sector organisations working in mental health, suicide prevention, substance use, and community support, consulted informally on alignment, gaps in provision, and opportunities for collaboration. Academic and professional stakeholders, including researchers and practitioners, consulted in relation to evidence, policy context, and the framing of prevention-focused narratives. Community-based practitioners and advocates, providing feedback on accessibility, language, and real-world impact. These consultations helped shape the company’s community-focused work, supported the continued development of the Co-alc Alliance documentary, and ensured that activities remained grounded in lived experience, ethical practice, and public benefit.
