Company activities and impact

This financial year has seen us continue with our Large Copper butterfly captive management trail. This research work has been ongoing for 3 years and we continue to maintain a captive population of butterflies. As part of this project we are also continuing to propagate and increase the numbers of water dock plants available. Working with Suffolk Tree Wardens, Natural England, Wildlife Trusts and herbariums, we have been writing a proposal for the conservation of native elm trees in Suffolk and Norfolk. This will be a community-based project, with the aim being to propagate the endemic elm species of Suffolk, and distribute these via the Suffolk tree wardens and Suffolk protected landscape teams. We have completed a propagation trail that has enabled us to apply for a Farming in Protected Landscape grant, that will commence in the next financial year. We have reviewed the actions for the priority species of plant and invertebrates for Norfolk and Suffolk. We are currently in the process of writing management plans and direct intervention protocols for those species that are either data deficient or not being support by other groups. We are also working with Natural England to arrange the relevant permissions and licenses needed to work with these species. Towards the end of the financial year the CIC secured 85 acres of land at Haddiscoe, Norfolk. This site will be used as part of our endangered water plant project.
