URBAN GROW LIVERPOOL CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 March 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 March 2025

Principal activities of the company

In the period of 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025 we have continued our work of building planters and selling plants at farmers markets which we then used the money to fund our work. April 2024 we built and sold two planters to the Cloud Gardener for use in their display at the RHS Urban Show. They won awards for their display and they then donated the display to a primary school in Manchester. We partnered with the Merseyside Recycling Waste Authority to create a growing kit that is primarily used on windows and includes everything needed to start growing some vegetables. These 240 growing kits were offered to households around the Liverpool City Region, free of charge, giving recipients access to growing with the need of a garden as well as being renter friendly. The growing kits were also pair with guidance on set up the kit, what and how to grow as well as making use of the growing seasons, to make sure that there is a continuous use of the kit all year round, reducing plastic waste as well as helping to lead a healthier lifestyle. Developed the site, we built a second raised bed At the location of our site, we built a second raised bed, giving access to growing with more of the immediate community in both volunteer and produce recipient capacities. The second raised bed also gave access to a wider range of produce available to the local community.. Unfortunately due to the weather, moving house twice and many family issues we were not as present on the site as we would have liked to be and therefore the growing was affected. Due to this in March 2025 we welcomed volunteers onto the site to help clear the site of remaining junk and begin to lay down the flooring and get started on growing some vegetable plants. This was very successful and we developed a WhatsApp group for the volunteers to connect and talk between the sessions. We built another two raised beds in March 2025 and we laid cardboard and wood-chip onto the floor which made our part of the site look very neat and well managed. This benefitted the area by increasing the amount of produce we can give to the local communities as well as expanding our growing knowledge for future projects. We continued with stocking free produce plants on our three growing wall sites around the Liverpool city region, with one in dingle, one in Toxteth and one in Tuebrook. This benefitted anyone who received a plant in access to healthy food, as well as bettering their mental health with taking ownership of growing.
