Company activities and impact

Col’s Kent Bike Tours CIC delivers guided cycling tours and outdoor experiences across Thanet and East Kent. During the financial year, the company’s activities benefited the community in the following ways: Increased access to physical and mental wellbeing activities: Over 100 local residents, including people on low incomes, those experiencing mental health challenges, refugees, and young people, have participated in free or subsidised cycling adventures, helping to improve their physical health, build confidence, and alleviate isolation. Inclusive cycling for diverse groups: Community rides were specifically designed to be accessible, with free bike hire (including electric bikes) offered where needed. The rides catered to all ability levels and included support for people with autism, neurodivergence, or mental health difficulties. Improved social cohesion and community connection: Participants joined WhatsApp groups and social platforms where they shared experiences and built relationships. Regular social rides helped individuals feel more connected, particularly those new to the area or facing personal difficulties such as bereavement or unemployment. Support for disadvantaged youth: The CIC ran school holiday adventure programmes and weekend activities that helped young people get outdoors, gain new experiences, and stay active in a safe, supportive environment. Encouraging environmental consciousness: By promoting cycling as a mode of transport and exploration, the CIC helped reduce car use and instil a love of nature among participants through coastal and countryside routes, wild camping, and eco-adventures. Skills and confidence development: Participants gained practical bike maintenance skills and navigational confidence. Those who were initially hesitant about joining the rides grew in self-esteem and resilience, as highlighted in beneficiary feedback.
