The Owen Project is a community-focused CIC dedicated to reducing isolation, improving wellbeing, and creating inclusive spaces for people of all ages in Stoke-on-Trent & Newcastle-Under-Lyme. Throughout the financial year, we delivered a wide range of groups, events and support activities designed to bring people together, offer practical help and strengthen community connections. Our weekly activities included craft and social groups, an internet cafe for digital support, a community lounge offering a warm, safe space and youth sessions. (Youth sessions are no longer ongoing). We also hosted community events, food support and collaborations with local organisations. These activities directly benefited the community by providing regular opportunities for social interaction, reducing loneliness, improving skills and confidence, supporting families in need, and creating accessible, welcoming environments for people who may otherwise feel isolated. Many of our groups attract over 30 attendees each week, showing the strong and growing local demand for what we offer. Overall, The Owen Project has continued to build a positive impact across the community by offering affordable, inclusive and meaningful support that strengthens wellbeing and brings people together.
Our stakeholders include local residents, families, young people, volunteers, partner organisations, local businesses, community venues and groups we collaborate with such as local pubs. We consult with stakeholders on an ongoing basis through regular conversations at our weekly groups, feedback gathered during community events, comments and messages received through our social media channels, and informal discussions with partner venues and organisations. We also monitor attendance, engagement, and local needs through our community lounge, support services, and online platforms including our WhatsApp channel. In response to feedback, we have introduced additional groups and activities, including expanded craft sessions and more social opportunities for adults who feel isolated. Stakeholders' input also influenced our partnerships with local venues and the development of new projects such as the Penkhull village writers groups and Penkhull Artistic Life. We have also responded to community needs by increasing our food support, having free activities and ensuring that our sessions remain accessible and inclusive. Overall, stakeholder consultation had directly shaped our planning, ensured our activities reflect local needs, and helped us grow our offer to better support the wellbeing of the community.
