For the year ending 31 March 2025 the company was entitled to exemption under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Intangible/Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over its expected useful life, as follows: Fixtures & Fittings 25% straight line Land and buildings are not depreciated.

    Other accounting policies

    1. Accounting Convention. The financial Statements have been prepared on the going concern basis, under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities. 2. Turnover. Turnover represents amounts receivable for good and services net of VAT and trade discounts. 3. Intangible/Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation. Intangible/Tangible Fixed Assets ares stated at cost less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over it expected useful life, as follows. Fixtures and fittings, 25 per cent straight line. Land and buildings are not depreciated. 4. Cash flow. The company has taken advantage of the expemption granted under FRS 1 and has not provided a cash flow statement as it is a small company. 5. Stock. Stock is stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value. (Therefore, donations valued at £0 as not purchased).

Arranged event and provided books for event with Alex Cotter at Priorswood Library for Wellsprings School. Fri 21 – Sun 23 February 2025. Suggested authors for and provided books for and attended Watchet Book Festival. Also ran local author workshops. Wed 12 March 2025. Attended and provided books for school event at Bishop Fox’s School with author Antony McGowan. We continue to offer a free delivery service in the local area to those in the vulnerable group. We also continued to stock a wide range of local author titles and self-published titles and gave help, where possible, to authors suggesting writing groups and giving advice on printing and distribution. We promoted the arts generally through the noticeboard in the bookshop and by promoting local brochures and leaflets through the bookshop. We also continued our relationship with Climate Action Taunton where we helped promote their events generally and helped find authors and provided events in association with them on the subject of climate change. We continued our collaboration with local organisations including Tacchi-Morris, The Wyndham Theatre, The Temple Methodist Church and the local libraries in Taunton and Priorswood and further afield in Porlock. We also donated a number of books to local charity groups throughout the year. Staffing 2 Full time staff, one part-time staff. 14 volunteers were employed to help with the stewarding of events, the distribution of catalogues and also helping with tasks within the bookshop.

Consultation with stakeholders

Stakeholders are the wider local public and include writers, educationalists, volunteers and collaborative organisations. We gave advice and direction to enquiries from local authors asking advice on writing, publishing and the promotion of their work. This included referral to publications, publishers, local writing and poetry groups and other organisations. We also encouraged feedback on which authors our customers would like to give a talk.
