Overview and Purpose Pamodzi Creatives CIC exists to bring people together - "Pamodzi means together" - through creativity, storytelling, and community. Our mission is to promote well-being, inclusion, and empowerment across Portsmouth, especially among women, young people, and marginalised voices. We believe strongly that everybody has a story worth sharing - and when those stories are told, communities grow stronger. Through our three pillars of Inspirational Women of Portsmouth, Community and Schools Programmes, we aim to challenge negative narratives, and create spaces that celebrate and inspire. Activities and Impact -Fundraising and Charity Support This year we raised £2,000 for Portsmouth City of Sanctuary - Haven Women’s Project, recognising the urgent need to support refugee and asylum-seeking women in our city. These funds contribute to supporting marginalised women with safety, resources and community - aligning directly with our mission of inclusion, care, and empowerment. -Community and Cross-cultural Storytelling Projects We continued to organise and facilitate cross-cultural storytelling and community projects bringing together people from diverse backgrounds. Through these, we build bridges across cultures, challenge barriers, and amplify voices that are often unheard. In partnership with Portsmouth City of Sanctuary, we also provided cross-cultural sports activities including meals and transport for refugee and asylum-seeker community members - ensuring accessibility and inclusion. -Schools and Youth Engagement: Creative and Educational Programmes Through the support of TGET, our school-based and youth-focused activity remained a core pillar: Who Inspires You Project - We continued collaborating with local schools, the college, and community groups to bring inspirational role models into the curriculum. This helps to raise aspirations and broaden horizons for young people, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. Curriculum-Led Dance - As in past years, we delivered bespoke dance workshops (based on the Laban movement analysis framework) for Portsmouth and Southampton Schools Sports Partnership. These workshops integrate physical, cognitive and creative learning, and include CPD training for school staff. -Celebration of Local Women: Inspirational Women of Portsmouth Awards Our annual awards programme - the heart of Pamodzi’s public identity. This year we held our seventh annual event (on International Women’s Day), including a podcast series, networking events, and storytelling by local people. The main ceremony was held at Portsmouth Guildhall, with 380 guests and 100 performers. We were also able to include complimentary tickets offered to people from marginalised communities We celebrated a number of remarkable women whose stories reflect resilience, community spirit, creativity, leadership and care - reinforcing our “who inspires you” motto. This celebration continues to shine a light on everyday heroines - not “winners,” but members of tribes whose collective support and impact make Portsmouth what it is. Stakeholder Engagement & Community Partnerships Throughout the year, we consulted and collaborated with our Community Advisory Board, local partner organisations, schools, community groups, and individuals. This included: - co-designing nomination and selection processes for the Awards to ensure representation across diverse communities. - working with partner organisations to deliver community, creative, educational and cross-cultural activities. Our partners over the year continued to include a diverse range of groups: (for example) local choirs, dance companies, community health and well-being organisations, youth groups, refugee support organisations, among others. How Pamodzi Creatives Meets It's “Community Interest” Purpose As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we remain committed to using our resources, time and energy for the benefit of the wider Portsmouth community - especially those often excluded or marginalised. Our programmes focus on inclusion, empowerment, representation and opportunity - often for women, young people of colour, refugees and asylum-seekers. Our events and projects centre around community participation and visibility, not profit or private benefit. We reinvest funds (e.g. fundraising proceeds) into community benefit (charity support, community events, youth programmes) rather than profit distribution.
Stakeholder Involvement & Governance We have maintained active collaboration with a broad set of stakeholders: schools, community organisations, cultural and social-wellbeing groups, local government departments, and our Community Advisory Board. Key programme design, delivery and evaluation has been done in consultation with community representatives - particularly from marginalised groups - to ensure relevance, dignity, accessibility and real impact. As Directors, we have overseen all programmes delivered this year, ensured transparency, responsibility and alignment with our mission and values. Future Plans & Priorities (2025 onwards) - Reflection & Next Steps As we look ahead, we intend to deepen and expand our impact while maintaining our values and commitment to well-being, empowerment and community storytelling. Key priorities include: Continue and expand fundraising through an Arts Council Bid and support for local charity partners, especially organisations supporting women, refugees, and marginalised communities. Grow our youth and school-based programmes - increasing reach, perhaps introducing new creative formats (e.g. more digital storytelling, workshops, mentoring). Strengthen partnerships with local community, cultural, and voluntary organisations - to co-create more inclusive, cross-cultural projects. Take a fallow year to build the visibility of our “Inspirational Women of Portsmouth” awards and storytelling outputs - through digital media, podcasts, social media - to reach more people across Portsmouth and beyond. Ensure sustainable funding strategy with the recruitment of a Director focused solely on this (e.g. grants, sponsorships, partnerships) while keeping authenticity and alignment with our mission. At the same time, I want us to remain anchored in joy, creativity and real connection - not get lost in pressure or burnout.
As with all previous years any Director remuneration was in the form of salary payment for works completed related to service delivery only, with other role related participation accepted as a voluntary contribution of time. The salary remuneration to the one Director is in line with the approvals from the Board. The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £18,824.52. Expenses were claimed for costs incurred by carrying out duties on behalf of the organisation, that would not otherwise require payment by the claimant - this includes travel and purchase of resources.
