The Sikh Games CIC delivered the UK's 1st Sikh Games in August 2024, and collected donations, sign-up fees, spectator tickets and sponsorships to make this event happen. The following activities have commenced/ delivered: -Roadshows around the UK to sign up people to compete in The Sikh Games. -Filming Videos for a mobile application that will be developed and used by the Athletes that have signed up. -Filming promo videos to encourage the sign up to The UK's 1st Sikh Games (that took place from 15th-18th August 2024) -We hosted a two day free Camp for those that have signed up for The Sikh Games at St Georges Park, Home of England Football (Venue hire, marketing, food costs, insurances, accommodation costs of volunteers). The Impact of this was that hundreds of people that have never had access to elite training got an opportunity to learn and take guidance from our Coaches in the following industries: Sprint Coach, Nutrition Coaching, Strength & Conditioning, Powerlifting Coach, Sports Scientist, Cricket training, Boxing training, Hockey training, Gathka (Sikh Martial Arts) training and Football training. -We hosted our Launch Event in NatWest (Bishops Gate, London) to give exposure / raise funds for The Sikh Games. In addition to sporting bodies, we are invited prospective sponsors to assist with the event Launch and to obtain their financial support for the initiative. -In July 2024 we hosted our Launch Event in Nottingham Castle, in collaboration with Nottingham City Council. -Recording videos to create mini-documentaries of Professional Athletes to inspire others to develop a healthy lifestyle and find a sport to better their health. -Developing the designs for marketing posters for Roadshows around the UK in order to encourage sign up/ spectators. -Insurance cost in order to ensure there is adequate cover for the delivery of sports and activities for Roadshows/ Stalls / Camp / Sikh Games UK. -Purchasing of merchandise to help generate income and help advertise/market the organisation further -Full activation of Social media campaigns to encourage people of all ages signed up to The Sikh Games -Preps/ questionnaires prepared for sign-up to tender an Independent Impact Assessment to see the impact created by The Sikh Games Success Stories: Older generations: We have signed up women from South Asian families, that have not competed in sport in over 50 years, and we have been speaking to mainstream media platforms to share their story. We got these women 1-2-1 training before and at The Sikh Games in collaboration with England Hockey, to empower teams of women to play hockey (most who had never held a hockey stick in their lives before). Encouraging Change in lifestyle: We also had a gentleman that has been in England for over 60 years, and since he has arrived from India he had never ever competed in sport, and he saw The Sikh Games and is encouraged to sign up to run. He completed the run in the 70+, he is turning 80 next year and has now signed up to a gym so he can train to be ever faster for the 2026 Games. -Multi-generational event: In Leicester we have a story of women from three generations, from one family who competed in the UK's 1st Sikh Games. 79 year old Mr Sodhi (runner mentioned above) has also inspired his son and grandchildren to compete at the next Sikh Games. -Creation of Sports teams: We did a Regional sign-up from all around the UK, to bring communities together. Previously in the UK we only had 2 Sikh Cricket teams (ever), we managed to create 11 Sikh Cricket teams at the 1st Sikh Games UK. These teams have always included other ethnic minorities too. -A great 3 day sporting event: We managed a great 3 day sports event at multiple venues around Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire to bring communities from all around the UK to The Sikh Games. We had the support of England Hockey, the FA, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire Cricket Boards, and others to deliver sessions to encourage our spectators to try out their respective sports. -Opening Ceremony: For launching The Sikh Games in the UK we organised an exciting Opening ceremony at the Motorpoint Arena, in Nottingham, attracting singers from around the world at discounted prices, to raise awareness about The Sikh Games starting in the UK. The event was attended by multiple news platforms and was a very remarkable moment in UK's history, attended by many dignitaries. The event also features Sikh Martial Arts performances (from a local Gatka Akhara/ group), and the first performance was a local group of children from Nottingham. We also got the local football clubs (Nottingham Forest and Notts County FC), involved in this, to deliver football activities on the day of the Opening Ceremony. -We are planning The Sikh Games Magazine, 'the Ambassadors Voice', which will be launched in March 2025 (Sikh New Years) to highlight stories of British Sikhs and will be sent online to Sikh schools, to empower the youth to get more involved in sport. -We have done over 50 Radio interviews, we have featured in a BBC News piece, multiple ITV pkatforms, we have appeared on International Sikh / Panjabi TV programmes, and also on Sky Sports in August 2024. We have also features in a Sport England article, and an Article in the Runnymeade. -We have been invited as Key Note Speakers at multiple events to talk about all the work we are doing at The Sikh Games. -We have launched the campaign for the next Sikh Games already, to ask people to continue engaging with the project, as we grow The Sikh Games UK further by adding 4 more sports for the 2025 Games, which will be announced on the Sikh New Year in March 2025. -The entire project has been run by volunteers, from Executive Board Members, Ambassadors, Sports Leads to Regional Leads, who all also work full time.
We have regular consultation with our Stakeholders, to discuss and understand their intentions and resources, and to share ours, all to encourage more South Asians to get fitter and healthier and to encourage more ethnic minority participation in mainstream sport. Our Stakeholders are: The Football Association, England & Wales Cricket Board, England Hockey, The Armed forces (all three services), England Boxing, England Squash, British Judo, the Gathka Federation, Archery GB, England Netball, Sporting Equals, Nottinghamshire Cricket Board. They have been consulted to support the Sikh Games with hosting their respective sports to give the following: -Reputational support -Assist with the sports tournament -Assist with demo sports at The Sikh Games (to encourage more sign up for the future) -Assist with Coaching/ Officiating sessions to encourage participation in sport at all levels -Assist with funding for their respective aspects -Record messages and share on their social media platforms to endorse support. -Assist local clubs with coaching (discounts, women coaches mainly free of cost) Others: -Sports Activators: Nottingham Forest Football Club, Notts County Football Club, Leicestershire Cricket Board, the Football Association -Armed forces (Volunteer support at The Sikh Games, assisting with Opening Ceremony). -Sport England - Sharing The Sikh Games trailers on their platforms and assisting with exposure via article. -Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham University, NTU, Leicester Running track, - Host venues -Sponsors: Either by service/monetary: Motorpoint Arena, Mor Foods, Ram Singh Photographers, Anand Catering, Khalsa Jatha, Nishaani, RAUR Clothing, Otthee Group, Papa Johns (Nottingham), Anand International, Twinkle Totz Nursery, Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar Southall, Afghani Mandir Southall, Jinder Catering, Nottingham Council, The Impact Group, Octavian Security, The High Sheriff of Warwickshire, ZaZa Bazaar, ASM Collection, Vik Kainth, the Las Group, TS Designs. -Media Stakeholders: Akaal Channel, ITV, BBC, Sky Sports, PBC, Brit Asia, Punjab2000, UK Sikh Updates, Desi Radio, Sangat Television. -Food support during games: x5 Gurdwaras in Nottingham, x1 Gurdwara in Leicester -Performances: Nottingham Sikh Youth Group, Gatka Group East Midlands.
