Poppyland Community Radio has made a significant impact on the local community by providing a dedicated platform for truly local content, produced and presented by local people. Broadcasting from Northrepps Village Hall, the station reaches over 5,000 listeners each month, ensuring that important local stories, events, and resources are shared with the wider community. During the financial year, Poppyland Radio expanded its operations by relocating to a larger space within Northrepps Village Hall and setting up a second studio (Studio 2). This expansion has allowed the station to increase the number of locally focused shows, ensuring more comprehensive coverage of events, services, and community support initiatives. Despite space constraints, the station has already been able to broadcast key community programs, including The Mardle and Community Connectors, which provide vital information on topics such as mental health support, cost-of-living advice, and local public services. Poppyland Radio has also played a crucial role in fostering community engagement by featuring interviews with local leaders and organizations, such as Cromer Men’s Shed, Cromer Foodbank, and North Norfolk District Council representatives. Furthermore, partnerships with charities like About with Friends have enabled the station to amplify the voices of local support groups, directly benefiting residents who rely on these services. The station’s commitment to education and skills development has been another key benefit to the community. By providing training opportunities for young people, including Broadcast Assistants from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Poppyland Radio is helping to nurture future media professionals. The planned development of Studio 1 will further enhance these opportunities by allowing for additional training, live broadcasts, and the production of more specialist shows. With continued growth, Poppyland Community Radio is strengthening its role as an essential hub for local news, entertainment, and community support, ensuring that the voices of Poppyland residents are heard and valued.
