The main activities of the group were community events such as a Christmas light switch on for the children on the estate, bingo for the elderly and two family fundays. We do a regular litter pick and also made a start seeking funding for a community garden. The impact has been generally positive bringing the community together and getting people involved in activities to help tackle social isolation. We have put community notice boards up all over the estate to keep residents informed of events, this has proved effective in reaching those who aren’t on social media. We purchased some nets for the football goal posts. We also received funding from Fibrus who funding a wildflower garden on Bransty and the kids from the local school took part in planting.
We regularly engage with the council and the wider community. The local councillor attends the monthly meetings and we also engage with Whitehaven and Coastal Community Panel who have provided us with some funding. We have received funding from GMB, Prospect and Unite Trade Unions. We regularly liaise with the Cumberland Community Development team and the Councillor introduced us to Fibrus who were funding some projects as part of their section 106 agreements for the fibre rollout, this resulted in a wildflower garden being planted and the local school took part. We interact with the school as they are a key local stakeholder and part of the wider community on Bransty.
