During the financial year, Brave Hearts Academy CIC delivered a minimum of four hours per week of community wrestling and grappling coaching for both young people and adults. These sessions were delivered in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment and were accessible to members of the local community regardless of background or ability. The company’s activities have had significant physical, mental, and social benefits for participants. Regular wrestling and grappling training has improved physical fitness, strength, coordination, discipline, and overall health. From a mental wellbeing perspective, participants benefited from increased confidence, resilience, self-esteem, and stress reduction, particularly among young people who may otherwise be at risk of social isolation or inactivity. A key focus of the company’s work has been inclusion and equal access. Brave Hearts Academy CIC has actively supported participants from ethnic minority backgrounds and individuals with special educational needs (SEN), helping them to engage in sport in a positive and empowering way. Several participants supported through the programme have gone on to excel competitively, including achieving national championship wrestling titles and earning multiple grappling accolades across various age categories. These achievements have helped raise aspirations, demonstrate positive role models, and reinforce the value of commitment and perseverance. The company has also made a deliberate effort to increase female participation in wrestling and grappling; sports in which women are traditionally underrepresented. By providing a welcoming and supportive training environment, the academy has successfully encouraged more women and girls to participate, helping to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and promote gender equality in sport. In addition to individual outcomes, the academy has contributed to wider community cohesion by bringing together people of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds. The sessions have fostered mutual respect, teamwork, and positive social interaction, strengthening community ties and providing a constructive alternative to antisocial behaviour. Any surplus generated by the company has been reinvested into delivering and sustaining these community activities, ensuring the ongoing provision of affordable and accessible coaching for the benefit of the community.
