During the financial year, Art Night Dundee CIC continued to advance its mission in providing sustainable support for the development of the arts in Dundee, creating opportunities for artists, art workers, arts audiences, and the wider public to engage with ambitious artistic and cultural projects in civic and municipal spaces. Our principal activity during the year was the commissioning and delivery of a large-scale public participatory procession and civic intervention titled The North Carry On Up, developed and led by Dundee-based artist Euan Taylor. The project was conceived and produced between May to August 2024, with partial funding secured through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via Dundee City Council. Drawing on Dundee’s maritime heritage and the legacy of the North Carr lightship, the project reimagined the vessel’s future as a symbol of collective action and communal uplift. Through a large-scale procession, a facsimile of the ship was carried through Dundee’s civic spaces, from the city commons and parks to the redeveloped waterfront and local monuments - inviting public participation and collective navigation. The North Carry On Up redistributed funds directly to local artists and art workers through paid performance fees, following an open call aimed at early-career practitioners and those engaged in the city’s artistic ecosystem. This approach strengthened local creative networks and provided professional opportunities for individuals across disciplines from visual and performance artists to designers and food creatives. A key objective of this project was to re-engage those who contributed to Art Night Dundee 2023, reinforcing our role with Art Night Dundee CIC as a sustainable and ongoing platform for artistic production and public engagement in the city. The project demonstrated how civic art-making can foster local pride, community collaboration, and meaningful access to the arts for diverse publics. Beyond this major commission, Art Night Dundee CIC contributed to sector-wide dialogue and research through participation in professional forums, including FERAL’s Articulation gathering event in Dundee, where we were invited to speak on panels addressing performance, outdoor, and live art practices. These contributions helped position the CIC as an active and supportive project within Dundee, and within the context of Scotland’s creative networks. Additionally, during the financial year, we completed our Creative Scotland Go See Share research project. This enabled visits to festivals and programmes across the UK and Nordic regions focusing on performance and situated art in public contexts. This research has been instrumental in developing new partnerships, deepening our understanding of best practices, and informing future programming and fundraising strategies for Art Night Dundee CIC. Through these activities, Art Night Dundee CIC has continued to benefit the community by supporting local artists, expanding access to public art, and enriching Dundee’s cultural landscape through collaboration, experimentation, and civic participation.
In regards our articles of association, our stakeholders are artists, art workers, arts audiences, and the wider public of Dundee. We also recognise that we are a contributor to a wider network of cultural projects in Dundee and Scotland, with networks growing beyond these boundaries this could become granular denoting the specifics of artist led activity, live art activity etc. but broadly, we strive to be connecting to and contributing the the community of arts and creative practice in our local and national context. Drawing on our experience of working with partners from across Dundee through previous projects, we sought out a moment of collective reflection about the future of Art Night Dundee CIC as a new and adapted organisation. Through an information sharing session we met with city wide stakeholders, from council representatives, artists, curators from partner institutions, grassroots organisers etc. This session in Feb 2024 was an opportunity to imagine a future for Art Night Dundee CIC in relation to a city wide offer and mutual understanding of the interconnectedness of Dundee’s arts and cultural programming. In June and July 2024 we held a two part consultation with artists and artist led projects in the city, inviting reflection and participation from our peers on the proposed future for Art Night Dundee CIC, and our first major project The North Carry On Up. Seeking a transparent space for planning, the sessions had a focus on opportunities for funding redistribution and paid opportunities for artists and art-workers in the city through our planned participation project in August 2024. Consultation with funder and with participants and peer artist-led orgs has continued through a combination of project reports and email updates. With some funders we have established a supportive space for ongoing updates and conversation around the development of Art Night Dundee CIC.
The aggregate fees paid to or receivable by the 3 directors in respect of qualifying services was £18,955 over the one year period of accounts from 2024 2025.
