TALO community strives in working with the community towards meaningful outcomes that enriches one's quality of life. The organisation understands that when its service users are facing difficulties or barriers in accessing universal services. It can have repercussions on other aspects of their lives. Hence, the Advocacy programme takes a cohesive approach to support whereby the emotional wellbeing is also taken into consideration. This year, the Advocacy programme has supported over 100 service users out of which 79% were female, 76% of Somali ethnicity and the main support area was finances. Support cases can be time consuming due to the organisation cohesive approach and typically they can remain active for up to 6 months. Another core project is the basketball weekly sessions for young men aged 14+. In its third year, the sessions have proved to be hugely popular among young people with numbers reaching up to 35 attendees per session. There were an additional 2 young men (who attended the sessions) recruited to help with the increase in numbers. Additionally to physical benefits gained by the attendees, other major outcomes include a sense of belonging and having positive role models among the group. Following consultation, the sessions have shifted from term-time to all year provision. The school holidays programme is another popular project that gets booked up very quickly. The trips have become known to be affordable, safe and well organised. Over 150 people have attended as part of their family and 98% of which have said they would like to attend future trips.
TALO community periodically uses feedback forms to monitor and evaluate its activities. The insights gathered enables the organisation to inform how future services are shaped. For example, following the provision of First Aid training at TALO community, the feedback pointed towards a need for more varied training courses with an emphasis on employment related training. The organisation is still in the process of renovating the local St Paul's park to a welcoming space, inclusive of all ages which the local residents can take pride in. This process has taken longer than anticipated as there are several key stakeholders involved with different priorities and TALO community's task as the lead organisation is to ensure that the space works for all whilst being considerate of the regulations set by the local authority.
