In 2024-5 we continued to make our gallery space available to emerging artists, providing a platform for them to organise exhibitions and art events. In total we facilitated 53 exhibitions, enabling over 150 artists to produce their own events and reach an audience of more than 2000 visitors. HA Harts Lane Alternative Between April and July 2014 we piloted HA Harts Lane Alternative (HA), an independent experimental Fine Art programme that offers an alternative to the traditional MA art education. HA focuses on skill-sharing, affordability and the realities of living and working as an artist in London, responding directly to widespread dissatisfaction with mainstream art education models. Eight artists were selected for the first edition of the programme, which included an interim exhibition in May and a final degree show in July. The Open Door Exhibition In September we hosted the Open Door, a collaborative exhibition exploring themes of belonging and displacement across time and space, created by Aude Herail Jager and Tisna Westerhof (Harts Lane Director). An integral part of the project was the Women's Quilt of Pride, a collective textile artwork produced through workshops with local communities in France and London, in collaboration with IKWRO Women's Rights Organisation. As part of the exhibition we also organised: - A protest banner workshop, and - A community manifest writing workshop in collaboration with the Feminist Library (Peckham, SE London) Hatch Fest and Hatcham Street Market In 2024 we launched the first edition of Hatch Fest alongside the Hatcham Street Market, a three day community festival celebrating the vibrant, diverse and creative spirit of Hatcham and New Cross Gate. Designed for, by and with local residents, Hatch Fest showcases the neighbourhood's culture, sustainability and community pride through a range of free and inclusive events. The 2024 pilot brought together over 400 participants and received overwhelmingly positive community feedback. Building on this success, the 2025 edition featured new partners, expanded programming and a launch event at the Old Library Bar. Looking ahead Hatch Fest 2026 will extend across multiple venues and public spaces to reach a wider audience and deepen community connections. All events will remain free to attend, ensuring accessibility for all, particularly for low-income families and individuals who may face barriers to participation. Our overarching goal is to foster lasting relationships, promote sustainability and strengthen community resilience in an area facing significant economic and social challenges. All I Want For Christmas is Peace In December 2024 Harts Lane proudly presented All I want for Christmas is Peace, the first edition of our annual international Winter Show and Fundraiser. We invited artists from around the world to donate postcard sized artworks, each sold for £30 with all proceeds supporting Harts Lane's mission to bring people together and closer to themselves through the arts. This year's theme, a call for a more just and peaceful world, brought together 250 artworks from other 130 artists worldwide. The event also included Peace in Every Language, a free creative postcard workshop led by artist Jose Abad Lorente, inviting children and adults to explore calligraphy and design messages of peace in multiple languages. Artist Membership Programme We continued to develop our Artist Membership Scheme, which included: - 1 Members' Exhibition in February, featuring 34 participants - 3 editions of Tin, a limited-edition seasonal zine inviting open-ended writing (up to 200 words) on any topic, including notes, lists, rants, reflections, recipes, reviews or fragments, accompanied by a recent photograph of nature
Partner organisations and project participants are consulted through feedback forms, continuous engagement and exchange. Visitors are consulted through feedback forms and comment books. Our Advisory Group met on 22nd January 2025 and was updated via email on numerous occasions. The Directors' Board Meeting was held on 1st December, as a result the end of year accounts, this form and a new set of policies were approved.
Directs were paid in accordance with the entry for directors' salaries in the accounts. The services of one director are offered at a discounted rate as a benefit of membership. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for directors' loss of office which require to be disclosed.
