The overarching mission and purpose of the Salisbury Transition City (STC) business is to act as the catalyst to effect change in people’s behaviours and attitude towards more ecologically supportive ways of living. In 2024/25 STC continued to facilitate change in the Salisbury area by inspiration, education and collaboration through events, outreach and social media, with several ongoing and revenue projects detailed below. Funded by donations and grants. Share Salisbury - A Library of Things (open 10 hours over 3 days per week) Funded by the original grant, customers, and donations became its own entity. Continuing: - Air Quality Project (expanded in 2022 to involve more collaboration with local citizens and schools) a monitoring and education project. Funded by Wiltshire Council (WC) grant and donations from citizen scientists. STC provides assistance and advice to WC at their Salisbury Air Quality Management Group and it is likely that Wiltshire Council will expand this to the whole of the county in 2025. - People in The Park - STC’s big annual event was held on 17th May 2025 and was part supported by a youth bursary to allow the development of a young person in Salisbury in managing the running of the youth stage. This will continue into 2025/26. - Green Drinks - An in-person meeting every two months at a local establishment. This is a social and networking event that brings together people involved in different sustainability groups in the local area and is a way for people to find out about volunteer opportunities and local green incentives and update members. - Retrofitting - STC continued to offer advice to householders. New: - Seed funding - STC granted seed funding to four projects aimed at improving the wellness and wellbeing of the wildlife and citizens of Salisbury of all ages and diversities. - STC supported an application by several member groups to DEFRA for a stretch of the River Avon in Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Salisbury to be a 'Designated Bathing Site' and so, if successful, undergo weekly water quality monitoring.
STC held its annual general meeting of members with its Steering Group in February 2025. Stakeholders who attended the meeting include interested members of the local community, and members of other community groups with adjacent aims. The members contributed ideas as to STC's priorities over the coming year.
