Company activities and impact

The first part of 2024 was taken up with planning and delivering a Crowdfunder campaign, which all members of the studio took part in, successfully raising £11, 500 pounds, £1,500 more than our target. During the summer and early Autumn 2024, with this money, we concentrated on the necessary work to up-grade and improve our facilities, working both with our landlord on some long promised improvements to the fabric of the building, including roof insulation, new double glazed door and windows and new LED lighting, all designed to improve on our environmental impact, on the comfort (reducing draughts and leaks), and use-ability of the space, on making it more accessible and to reduce our electricity usage and bills. At the same time we rebranded to a new name and identity, HAUSPRINT and launched a new, highly functional website with a direct sales option, allowing sales opportunities for our members, and built in newsletter software. The new website is contributing to better reach and engagement. It provides excellent creative content, interviews, articles and archive material, a glossary of printmaking terms and highly-visible courses, events and exhibitions available world-wide . Late Autumn and New Year 2025 was a period of consolidating and building memberships, users, exhibitions and courses after the disruption of the refurbishment and new press installation. We decided to limit the number of exhibitions early in the new year to Easter, and concentrated on consolidating and increasing use of the studio again, supporting our members and users back into the studio after the period of disruption. We are currently running the fourth year of our extremely successful Etching Year course, which we have re-designed to offer progression from previous courses. We currently have 7 students on the course, which runs every Monday evening throughout the year, with an end of year exhibition in July 2026. Numbers on our short courses have increased this year- these are a point of entry into this longer course and our studio memberships, they are targeted at skills and knowledge building around printmaking technique, including low-toxic, low-impact printmaking techniques such as collagraph and monotype. Our exhibition programme September 2024 to April 2025 has focussed on showcasing the work of members; exhibitions have received on average of over 50 visitors, with 95+ visitors to two recent exhibitions, which always include either a free Artists Talk, open to anyone (average 10-15 people) and/ or a members evening where our studio members get together to exchange ideas, to support each other to look at artwork, with a different member leading the discussion with a topic of their choice each time. The more experienced members pair with the younger, less experienced artists as mentors for their exhibitions and members' evening sessions. Exhibitions provide essential CPD, and with a number of sales, income for those artists. Our short courses in etching techniques and stone lithography (currently an ‘at risk’ craft on the Crafts Council register), and low-tech, sustainable courses in carborundum and Monotype have proved popular. This year we have employed on a freelance basis 4 tutors, a social media assistant and provided some paid employment to our two volunteer technicians. We are currently working with two of our younger artists to build their teaching skills, developing new courses that they will teach in 2026, working closely with them to provide support and experience that they will find invaluable as they build and progress their career portfolios. We awarded an annual studio prize to two graduates from Camberwell MA Printmaking (part of UAL). This allows 1 year free access to our excellent studio facility, mentoring, an exhibition and CPD opportunities. We provided work placements for two young people (NEETS), working with ELEVATE in Lambeth to deliver those placements, interviewing 7 young people in total, and feeding back on interview technique and application to all applicants, whether successful or not. We have built new memberships this year including recent MA graduates from London colleges, and new members from our connection with the St. Vincent de Paul charity in Brixton.

Consultation with stakeholders

A regular programme of monthly Member's Evenings provide opportunities for discussion. feedback and reporting back on actions. Stakeholders (studio members) have contributed to decisions on fees ( we have frozen fees for the next year to April 2026) Exhibitions and longer courses provide opportunities for associated workshops and Artist's Talks attended by members, providing networking and cpd opportunities, which inform our future programme of talks and events. Members Supported members via a programme of exhibitions, studio events including Artists’ Talks by members, tutorial, subsidised places online courses and regular updates and communication via Whatsapp group. Keyholder members Keyholder members access studio and provide supervision for less experienced members. Members have the opportunity to work with our more experienced keyholder members learning printmaking skills, exhibiting experience, exhibition installation techniques and professional editioning practice. Sales Built sales opportunities for members via studio exhibitions and our new Shop on the website into regular memberships in response to feedback- to improve visibility and selling opportunities for our artist members. .
