COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

CHISWICK FLOWER MARKET COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 12546445 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 April 2025

Company activities and impact

The company operates a flower market in the Old Market Place, Chiswick High Road, London W4 2DR. The market is held on the first Sunday of each month (excluding January). The market was established in 2020 to help revive Chiswick High Road which had declined in recent years. It was the first new flower market in London for 150 years. The market sells a wide range of cut flowers, house plants, outdoor plants and accessories, with a focus on British grown/produced and on sustainability. It attracts visitors from all over London and farther afield, which ensures a vibrant day in Chiswick. During the fifth year of operation the market continues to be a great success for residents and visitors alike. It continues to bring significant footfall to the High Road, each market attracts between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors. Many local businesses including shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes have benefited from increased revenues on market days. Some high profile shops have opened on the High Road in the last year which is evidence of the success, e.g. The White Company plus M&S has significantly expanded their food hall. There are many traders who attend every market, several who are seasonal, and there is a steady stream of new applicants. Priority is given to local businesses and those with a strong sustainability ethos. The market is also very supportive of charities and not for profits. Local musicians are invited to provide entertainment at the markets in addition to school choirs for some markets. All profits made by the flower market are put back into the local community. During 2025 we launched a Grant program using the revenues from our traders to fund local community initiatives. We also continued to maintain flower beds in the High Road.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders comprise all local businesses and residents of Chiswick. We undertake surveys (typically one per year) to seek feedback on performance and on any proposed changes. The local council, the London Borough of Hounslow (“LBH”) is also a key stakeholder. The market organisers have worked closely with LBH in order to renew the licence to trade, to ensure safe and efficient operation of the market and to ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations. LBH has been hugely supportive of the market. The market is run solely by volunteers who are all local. Regular meetings are held to discuss the operations of the market, to ensure smooth running of the market and that the CIC continues to meet its objectives. Interested parties have been kept informed via newsletters, press releases and social media. We have encouraged feedback from all parties and where possible and practical we have implemented any feedback provided.
