During the financial year to which this report relates, Muslim Roots Collective CIC delivered a range of inclusive, community-led activities aimed at supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and social development, while strengthening connections between mothers and families. Our work is rooted in faith-informed values, cultural sensitivity, and accessibility, ensuring that families feel welcomed, understood, and supported. A central element of our work is our flagship programme, Muddy Mondays, an outdoor, play-based initiative delivered in our garden space. Muddy Mondays welcomes home-educated children as well as pre-school-aged children, providing regular opportunities to learn through play, nature, and exploration. These sessions support children’s physical development, confidence, curiosity, and connection to the natural world, while also offering an important space for caregivers to connect. What makes Muslim Roots Collective unique is our strong commitment to cultural sensitivity and financial accessibility. Our activities are designed specifically with Muslim families in mind, ensuring cultural and faith-based needs are respected throughout our provision. While many forest school and outdoor learning providers in the local area charge £10 or more per child per session, Muddy Mondays is offered at a significantly reduced cost of £3 per child, ensuring families facing financial barriers can access high-quality outdoor learning. Throughout the year, we launched a new website, expanded our home education curriculum-based sessions, hosted our first summer event welcoming over 40 children, organised an inclusive End of Summer Party with free tickets, and restarted our Stay and Play sessions for the winter, which we ran free of charge. Overall, the company estimates that 300–400 people benefitted from our activities, with a growing number of families attending from both within and outside the borough. Big dreams, small hands, strong roots
The company’s stakeholders include children, parents and caregivers, families who attend our sessions, volunteers, and the wider community. We consult with stakeholders in an informal and ongoing way through regular conversations at sessions, observing attendance and engagement, and listening to feedback from families. Families also share their views through repeat attendance and word of mouth. Feedback from families has helped shape our activities, including the types of sessions we offer and our focus on low-cost and free provision. This approach ensures our work remains relevant and responsive to community needs.
