During the year end August 2025 Woodshed Workshop delivered practical, creative and socially focused activities that supported mental health, skills development, and social inclusion for people at risk of isolation or disadvantage. The company worked primarily with young people aged between 14 and 19 and adult men aged above 18, with a particular focus on men aged above 55. Woodshed Workshop has provided small group, hands on activities delivered from its workshop base and through outreach settings. These activities used woodwork, making, food, and arts based practice as tools to build confidence, develop practical skills, encourage positive social connections, and support wellbeing. During the financial year, Woodshed Workshop delivered a structured work experience programme for young people aged between 16 and 19. This programme offered tailored placements designed around individual strengths and development needs. A total of 42 sessions were delivered, engaging four young people. All participants completed the programme and were supported to progress to positive future destinations, including employment, apprenticeships, and further education. The company also delivered outreach youth work and arts based projects for young people aged between 14 and 18. These sessions were youth led and facilitated by qualified youth workers, providing opportunities for creative expression, personal development, and engagement. Eighteen young people participated in these sessions, using arts and creativity to express themselves and feel heard. For adults, Woodshed Workshop delivered community based activities focused on men's mental health and social connection. The Woodshed Whittlers Project supported men aged above 55 through regular woodwork and making sessions. During the year, 41 sessions were delivered with a total of 560 attendances, averaging 13 participants per session. Twenty eight men engaged overall, with many attending regularly. Participants reported improved social connections, with half reporting reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation and the remaining half identifying the preventative value of the project in maintaining wellbeing and avoiding isolation. Men's Pie Club provided a relaxed, welcoming environment for men aged above 18 to come together around cooking and shared meals. Forty five sessions were delivered during the year, with 315 attendances and an average of seven participants per session. The sessions supported informal peer connection and conversations around mental health, contributing to improved confidence and social wellbeing. Across all activities, Woodshed Workshop created accessible, supportive spaces that reduced isolation, built skills, and strengthened community connections. The company's trading and funded activities were directly aligned with its community purpose. Woodshed has continued its work with highly experienced community architects to develop plans for an onsite community cafe and kitchen. With support from the local authority through UKSPF funding, this financial year has seen the first phase of developments in three previously disused units on site. The creation of the cafe and kitchen will enable Woodshed to have a carousel of offers around making, creativity and food which will also expand in to customer service training and barista training. Woodshed was successful in securing core funding for it's main areas of work as well as generating revenue through ongoing contracted off site work and sales from commissioned orders.
The company's stakeholders and partner agencies range from local schools, colleges, Redhills, Mencap, Men's Pie Club, Youth Justice Service, social services, the local authority and grant funders. We have hosted community days and surveys to inform stakeholders and the local community of the business plan and direction of the organisation and to also ensure we consider the communities needs.
A single director, Mr N Hopkins, is employed as the managing director responsible for running the workshop, supervising and planning of training, and the general daily running of the premises and staff. He is paid solely for his role as manager and not for any duties as director of the company. No other directors received any remuneration.
