The Company continued to run mixed ability boxing sessions in Bradford during this year. Boxing coaches (male and female) deliver the non-contact sessions. The sessions are based around the mixed ability model - a research backed approach to inclusivity in sport. Participants include people with autism, downs syndrome, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, cancer survivors, people living with crohns disease, endometriosis, fibromyalgia and mental health conditions. The content of the training is the same as in a general boxing gym, with the exception of sparring. Benefits of mixed ability boxing include physical and mental health benefits, increased confidence and reduction in social isolation.
Unorthobox regularly consults with participants to determine the structure and approach to our delivery, tailoring it to the needs of the individual participants. We are part of a wider mixed ability movement and regularly share information with our peers, participate in research and contribute to shared resources. These activities help to shape our delivery and promote the mixed ability model to a wider audience.
