During the financial year, the company’s activities focused on widening participation in the legal profession for students from low socio-economic and minority ethnic backgrounds. Our primary aim has been to improve access to credible mentors, role models, and professional development opportunities for young people who may otherwise face barriers to entering the legal profession. We delivered a range of in-person training sessions, online workshops, mentoring programmes, trips and visits to legal institutions, all designed to support students in developing employability skills and confidence. These activities enabled students to better understand the legal profession and to successfully prepare for applications and selection processes for apprenticeships, work experience, vacation schemes and mini-pupillages. Through guidance, practical advice and ongoing support, we helped aspiring lawyers navigate their academic studies and prepare for future careers in law. A significant area of work during the year was providing support to a local college to create in-house placement opportunities for students enrolled on the new T-Level Legal Services programme. These placements allow students to apply legal principles in real working environments, develop practical skills, and build professionalism under guided supervision. This work bridges the gap between classroom learning and the practical demands of legal practice. Without access to such placements, many students from low socio-economic backgrounds and minority ethnic communities would be unable to complete their T-Level qualification and would therefore be excluded from a potential career in law.
We also actively engaged with key stakeholders including schools, Sixth Form Colleges, universities, and law firms. Through these partnerships, we advocated for widening participation and helped to create platforms for discussion around the barriers young people face in accessing the legal profession. These discussions have enabled us to influence strategies that address challenges arising from new qualification routes into law and to promote inclusive pathways into legal careers.
